Book6Chapter7
After I sued Emily, Ethan came to me again shamelessly, begging me to drop the
charges.
“Claire, Emily was just confused for a moment, can you please not hold a grudge against her?”
I laughed in anger, “Confused for a moment? Then let her go to jail to sober up.”
“Claire, how can a girl like Emily endure the hardships of prison? I’ll kneel down for you, okay?”
With that, Ethan plopped down on his knees. Looking at his pathetic appearance, I felt a sense of satisfaction.
“Even if Emily Carter herself came to kneel down and apologize to me, it would be useless. Get out.”
After Ethan left unwillingly, my lawyer also came to the hospital.
He analyzed the case for me. In short, Emily would definitely not escape legal punishment this time.
I saw Emily again in court. She looked at me smugly and said, “Ethan has already hired the most authoritative lawyer in New York City for me, just wait for your
defeat.”
I smiled without saying a word and looked at my lawyer.
He said expressionlessly, “Don’t worry.”
I nodded happily, feeling completely secure.
Book Chapter 7
When Emily heard my lawyer’s name in court, she couldn’t laugh anymore.
The lawyer I hired this time was William Davis, the best in the legal field. He had
never lost a case.
It was very difficult for ordinary people to hire him, but I could hire him at any time.
Because he was the son of my mom’s best friend, he had always treated me like his
own sister.
As expected, Emily was sentenced to three years in prison for intentional assault.
And she had to compensate me for all medical expenses incurred during my hospitalization.
Hearing the verdict, Emily collapsed weakly.
After I recovered from my injuries, I prepared to sue Ethan for divorce.
He knew that if it went to court, he would definitely lose, so he finally agreed to a divorce settlement.
The day I got the divorce agreement, the weight on my heart finally lifted.
I felt much lighter, both physically and mentally.
This time, I was going to live for myself. I had wasted my youth on Ethan, and now I would only live for myself.
To express my gratitude, I invited William to dinner. I thought he wouldn’t agree because he was busy with work, but he still came.
I was surprised, he was a notorious workaholic. Since he started working, I rarely saw him, every time I asked him out, he would refuse, citing his busy schedule.
Book Chapter 7
Just like before, whenever I saw him, I had endless things to say. He listened quietly, occasionally picking up food for me.
After dinner, he said he wanted to go home too and offered to give me a ride.
His family and mine were neighbors. Back then, my mom bought a house next to her best friend so they wouldn’t be separated.
When I got out of the car, I invited him to come in for a while. My parents hadn’t seen him for a long time and often talked about him.
“Okay.” He agreed without hesitation.
Just as we were about to enter, a voice called out to me, “Claire.”
I turned around and saw that it was Ethan.
He walked towards me dejectedly, “Claire, give me another chance, okay?”
“This time, I’ll pursue you, I promise I won’t go to Emily again, I’ll cut off all contact with her.”
He hung his head, not daring to look at me, no longer having his usual confidence.
His confidence came from my repeated indulgence and tolerance, thinking that I would never leave him.
