Chapter 2
Ethan’s face darkened instantly as he grabbed my arm when I tried to turn away
His deep voice trembled with anger: “Grace Mitchell, what game are you playing?”
“We had an agreement, didn’t we? I’d marry you, even though Sophia has my heart.”
I remained silent. Ethan, mistaking this for childish sulking, stroked my head indulgently and said in a coaxing tone: “Stop
making a fuss. Let’s get married.”
“Go marry her instead. I’m done here.” I shoved him away with a curse.
Before anyone could react, I tore the hem of my wedding dress right there.
In my eight–centimeter red–soled hools, I stopped down from the platform and walked straight toward Sophia Reed.
The crowd stirred with excitement, eagerly anticipating a catfight between two women, their faces lit with anticipation. Sophia stood before me, her face wearing a challenging expression, her eyes filled with mock sympathy.
“Since you want to get married so badly, here, take it.” I handed the bridal bouquet to Sophia.
Ethan immediately rushed down, positioning himself protectively in front of Sophia, as if terrified I might harm her in the
slightest way.
I met Ethan’s eyes coldly and said with a smirk. “Relax, I’m not going to eat her alive. Why so nervous?”
Ethan glanced at the Eagle Eye cameras around us, then pulled me aside, growling: “What are you doing? I said I would
marry you, didn’t 17 Why are you being so jealous?”
So even now, he’s still blaming me for being jealous and ruining his meticulously planned wedding.
But he doesn’t know that I genuinely don’t want to marry him anymore.
“Ethan, now that Sophia’s back, let’s break up,” I said flatly.
Before Ethan could respond, Sophia’s affected voice cut in: “But why? I just come to attend his wedding. I’m not trying to
steal him.”
Her words sparked collective outrage..
Everyone started commenting: “Playing innocent after getting what you want? It’s Mr. Pierce’s blessing to marry her, why
is she putting on such an act?”
“Exactly, Miss Road just come to attend the wedding!”
I listened to these comments in silence, my heart growing bitter.
What am I then?
What do they take me for, the bride?
I’m human too. I fool humiliation. I feel pain.
At this point, under the watchful eye of the cameras, Ethan took my hand, speaking softly: “Don’t be angry, Sophia’s just
here to give us her blessing.”
“Ethan, don’t you find your actions ridiculous? I know you have feelings for her, but you actually put my veil on her head.
Did either of you think about me when you were embracing and crying?” I lashed out.
I could accept that Ethan doesn’t love me, but I cannot accept being publicly humiliated.
As I spoke, tears fall unexpectedly, landing on the back of my hand, burning into my heart.
Ethan’s expression turned ugly, his body trembling slightly as he frowned.
This was his sign of suppressed rage.
“Grace Mitchell, I’m giving you one last chance. Pick it up, and we’ll continue with the wedding.”
With that, he snatched the bouquet from Sophia’s hands and threw it to the ground.
I looked down at the slightly wilted bouquet and smiled.
–
My love, my confidence, my youth all reduced to this mockery.
Ethan was trampling on me, trampling on everything I am.
He would never bow his head for me.
I was always the inferior one in this relationship.

Then, before all the guests and the Eagle Eye cameras, I turned and walked away with grace, personally destroying the wedding of the century that all of River City had been watching.
