That day, I turned him down.
Fairy tales like Cinderella only exist in storybooks.
I couldn’t tell if Logan’s feelings for me were as genuine as he claimed, or if I was just another fleeting whim for a rich boy who always got what he wanted.
Besides, I’d just gotten out of a toxic relationship. I wasn’t ready to dive into something new–not yet.
But Logan simply smiled and said, “That’s fine. I’m shameless–I can wait.”
“Mia, don’t feel pressured. As long as you don’t hate me, don’t push me away, okay?”
Well, I didn’t hate him.
Life seemed to be slowly improving.
I even landed a job offer, and I was set to start next month.
But then, out of nowhere, Isaac somehow got ahold of my new contact information.
He was waiting for me outside my apartment complex.
“Mia, haven’t you caused enough trouble already?”
This was the first time he’d come looking for me since becoming “Mr. Carter,” the high–powered CEO.
He sighed, looking like he was trying his best to swallow his pride.
“I didn’t know… about your mom. Why didn’t you tell me?”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Isaac, are you really that clueless, or are you just pretending to be? Why don’t you think back for a moment? Are you sure I never told you?”
“Wasn’t it you who kept accusing me of lying? You didn’t even give me a chance to explain.”
The more time I spent around Logan, the more I realized how satisfying it was to speak my mind.
Isaac’s face darkened, clearly caught off guard by my words.
“You’re the one who dumped me because I was broke,” he snapped, frustration bursting through his carefully controlled facade. “After that, nothing I did was too much!”
He was still living in his fantasy, painting himself as the tragic victim of some grand betrayal.
“Isaac,” I said, my voice calm but firm, “I never left you because you were broke. And I never wanted to abandon you.”
I had told him this years ago when he first came back into my life. But just like now, he refused to believe me.
“That’s impossible,” he said, his voice rising. “I got your breakup text! You ended things with me!”
Back then, I didn’t bother explaining because I wanted to protect his pride. But today? I was done holding back.
If shattering his delusions was what it took, then so be it.
“I wrote you a letter,” I said evenly. “Maybe you never saw it. But the card I left behind? That wasn’t fake.”

Isaac’s brows furrowed deeply. “What card?”
“Before I left, I gave you $300,000,” I said, my tone cool. “I explained in that letter that my mom forced me to leave. I told you I believed in you- that you’d bounce back stronger than ever. You’re telling me you didn’t know any of this?”
For a moment, Isaac’s expression faltered. There was a flicker of panic in his eyes.
“That’s impossible!” he protested, his voice shaking slightly.
“That money came from Lola! She told me she sold her family’s house to scrape it together for
I laughed coldly, shaking my head.

“Are you serious, Isaac? You’re the CEO of a company now. How hard would it be for you to look into
something like this?”
“If you don’t believe me, go investigate it yourself.”
Isaac didn’t respond immediately. He just stared at me, his eyes narrowing as though trying to determine if I was lying.
After a long pause, he finally spoke, his voice low and tight.
“I’ll look into it.”
“But Mia,” he added, his words dripping with venom, “if I find out you’re lying to me again, I swear I won’t let you off so easily.”
