She jerked her head up and that was when she realized George’s eyes were very clear
and piercing. There wasn‘ t a trace of drunkenness in them at all.
He grabbed her wrist and threw her to the
floor.
“You thought such a small amount of alcohol could get me drunk?” he scoffed.
“Amanda, you really underestimate me.”
He picked up the discarded clothes from the floor and tossed them onto her.
“You‘ re a young woman, so why degrade yourself like this?”
The contempt in his eyes cut her like a knife.
She bit her lips hard and she asked,
“George, am I really so despicable in your eyes?”
The sheer coldness in his demeanor chilled

her to the core and shattered any remaining illusions she had about his feelings.

At the research base, a shuttle bus routinely transported staff to town for errands and supplies. On the day their marriage application was approved, Ken and Kelly boarded the shuttle and headed to town to apply for a marriage license.
While she was sitting on the shuttle, Kelly felt a bit anxious. As she stared out of the window and watched the scenery rush by, her heartbeats quickened.
Ken, noticing her unease, wrapped his arms around her gently and asked, “Are you nervous?”
She shook her head slowly. “Not really. I was just thinking… I hope the photo we take later on won’t make me look
terrible.”

Kelly. You’ll look good in every photo.
At the photography studio, the photographer barked instructions at them, “Come on. Sir, move closer to the bride! Bride, you should smile wider and make it
cuter.”
Kelly stole a glance at Ken and realized he was just as nervous as she was. Despite his composed demeanor, his hands fidgeted awkwardly. He was unsure of where to rest

When they finally saw the photo, Kelly burst out laughing at Ken’s stiff expression.
After they left the City Hall, Ken held Kelly’s hand tightly with happiness in his
eyes.
“Private Lambert, we are officially husband and wife now. Don’t worry, I’ll do everything in my power to make sure you have a good life!”
His earnest declaration made Kelly laugh.

Then, Ken slipped a gold ring onto her finger. Kelly watched his serious face and suddenly asked, “Ken, I heard quite a few women at the base like you.”
He finished placing the ring and gently kissed her hand with devotion, then he
said, “Yet, only one girl in my heart and it’s you.”
Kelly pursed her lips and smiled. She then patted his shoulder gently, “You always know how to make me happy!”
Ken held Kelly’s hand and walked to the nearest shop. “Let s buy some wedding candy to take back to the base. We can share it with everyone and announce that I’m officially a married man. Will that satisfy you, Private Lambert?”
Kelly nodded affectionately.
Ken was proven to be an ideal husband. He gave her a sense of security she hadn’t felt in a long time.

This time, she read the contents of the letter, but a hint of sadness appeared on her face.

Kelly immediately gave the letter to Ken and said, “There’s nothing wrong with Uncle Rick’s body, but he said in the letter that George found out that the satellite research base is in the Northwest and has
