Crimes Without Evidence Chapter 03

A few days ago, I discovered something abnormal about him. I found a pink hair on his clothes, a rare color that Lavender had recently dyed her hair.

At first, I couldn’t believe it. Holt loved me so much; the only times I’d seen him angry were when he was defending me.

Although Lavender was flirty and morally questionable, Holt’s quiet and reserved type wasn’t her usual preference. I really didn’t want to believe they could be involved.

But soon, reality struck me hard.

While Holt was sleeping, I secretly checked his phone.

At first, I didn’t find anything unusual, but I quickly discovered a hidden space on his phone.

In that space, not only were there pornographic apps and images, but also an account specifically for contacting Lavender.

Those images were extremely disturbing and graphic, showing girls who had been violently abused and covered in wounds.

There were even some dismembered body parts, and corpses split in half.

All those girls had blonde hair.

I have blonde hair too.

I never imagined that beneath his gentle exterior, he had such a disgusting fetish.

Besides that, there were chat logs with Lavender. “Darling, come to my home tomorrow. I’ll be waiting for you.”

“Don’t worry, I can give you an  experience Emily never could.”

Below was an attached nude  photo.

Holt replied with a signature emoji.

I was burning with rage, tears streaming down my face.

I never imagined my best friend would seduce my boyfriend.

That’s why I left work early today and hid under the bed, just to  catch them in the act.

But I never expected Holt to  outright kill Lavender.

Why did he kill Lavender?

Lavender’s boyfriend clearly knew about their relationship, so why didn’t he stop it?

My brain was a tangled mess as I helplessly tore at my hair.

After a brief moment of shock, I suddenly realized that the urgent matter was to call the police, otherwise Carter would be in  danger too.

I picked up my phone with trembling hands, its case already  stained red with blood.

“Hello? 911, what’s your  emergency?”

A gentle female voice came through as the call connected. I was overjoyed and about to speak.

Almost simultaneously, I heard the smart lock at the door opening.

“Beep, fingerprint verified. Door  unlocked!”

I instantly froze in place, my face filled with terror.

“Hello? Are you there?” I stopped  the call abruptly as Holt approached me.

“Darling, you’re still up? Who were you just talking to?”

“Nothing, it’s nothing.” My face turned pale as I trembled all over.

He had already changed into clean clothes, still bearing that refined expression, looking at me tenderly.

He was a completely different person from the one at the murder  scene.

“Darling, why is there blood on you?”

Only then did he notice the blood on my clothes, looking slightly startled.

I gritted my teeth hard, trying not to cry out loud.

“I fell off my bike, wasn’t careful.”

He stared at me with a complex expression.

“So you were the one who ran away earlier.”

I felt as if struck by lightning, nearly collapsing to the ground.

Holt stepped forward and steadied

“I’m sorry, darling. I must have frightened you.”

His face slightly flushed, showing  an almost childlike guilty  expression.

“Don’t be afraid, I won’t hurt you.”

I forcefully broke free from his grip and took a few steps back.

“You… why did you kill her?”

He looked at me calmly.

“Darling, as your best friend, she actually came on to me. Doesn’t she deserve to die?”

I was stunned.

“Just because of that? You killed  her for that?” He nodded, then  tried to put his arm around my shoulders again, but I dodged him once more, so he gave up.

“As your best friend, she hurt you  so deeply. I can’t stand for that. She has to die.”

I stared at him. This face was so  familiar, yet so strange.

His reasoning was absurd and laughable.

“How hypocritical. Then why did  you still sleep with her?”

He fell silent, just hanging his head.

“I’m sorry, darling, but you have to believe me. I really did it for your own good.”

Suddenly, something occurred to me. I glared at him wide-eyed.

“What about Carter?”

“He’s dead.”

“No, I’m calling the police.”

Panic-stricken, I grabbed my phone to call 911, but Holt snatched it away, a flash of menace in his eyes.

I trembled, stumbling back two steps, terrified he might fly into a rage and kill me too.

Thankfully, that murderous glint vanished as quickly as it appeared. He gripped my shoulders with both hands, gazing at me earnestly.

“Darling, just pretend you didn’t see anything today. I’ll take care of everything”

“Can we go back to living like we  used to?”

I shuddered, then nodded.

No matter what, my only hope of escape now was to pretend to go along with him. Seeing that I forgave him, Holt appeared very happy. He coughed twice, held me tightly in his arms, then took out a necklace from his pocket and put it around my neck.

“Darling, tomorrow is our wedding anniversary. This is my gift to you.

I originally planned to give it to you tomorrow.”

He smiled at me.

I lowered my head and stroked the necklace, trembling a little.

“Darling, I won’t let anyone who wants to hurt you get away with  it.”

I didn’t say anything, but glanced at the kettle nearby.

He released me, his face full of tenderness.

“Look at you, covered in that animal’s blood. Go wash up.”

I crooned in response. When he wasn’t looking, I quickly grabbed the kettle from the table next to me and smashed it against his  head.

He let out a muffled groan and stumbled back two steps. Blood immediately began flowing from his head, his eyes filled with surprise.

Without looking back, I opened the door and ran as fast as I could.

Holt sighed, wiping the blood from his head.

“Why? Why won’t you just listen?”
