Chase couldn’t hear or see anyone, except the woman in the breathtaking wedding gown. She turned, startled. It was indeed Scarlett!
“Scarlett!”
Chase rushed towards her, reaching for her arm. Scarlett’s father, whose eyes were brimming with unshed tears, shielded her.“Stop!”
The cathedral was filled with prominent figures; security was tight. Guards immediately intervened, restraining Chase. All eyes turned to him–surprise,
to him–surprise, curiosity, disgust…
He struggled, his usually impassive eyes full of pleading.“Scarlett! Don’t marry him. Forgive me, please!”
Scarlett hadn’t expected him to be here. Immediately, she regained her composure.
She said calmly, “Mr. Miller, you broke up with me, remember? Please respect me and don’t disrupt my wedding.”
Chase’s eyes reddened. A gentleman would offer sincere congratulations and quietly observe. But he couldn’t. He didn’t care about decorum; he wanted Scarlett.
He choked out, “I was an idiot. I love you, I never wanted to break up! I know I hurt you and I owe you a lot. I was wrong. Give me another chance, please!”
Scarlett was firm.“No. I don’t love you anymore.”
Leon approached, taking her hand, his gaze fixed on Chase.“Mr. Miller, did you hear that?”
Chase glared at him, his lips set.
Leon instructed the guards, “Mr. Miller is not welcomed. If he does anything crazy again, get him out of here.”
Then, taking Scarlett’s hand, he walked towards the altar. Chase stood there, numbly watching them.
The priest asked Scarlett, “Do you take Leon Brooks to be your lawfully wedded husband…”
Scarlett said firmly, “I do.”
Chase felt a crushing blow; it was as if the world had ended. He witnessed them exchange ring sign the marriage certificate. It was over. His heart felt ripped out.
Amidst the guests‘ well–wishes, Chase turned and left the cathedral. Leaning against the stone wall outside and clutching his chest, he closed his eyes in agony.
Ted, whose face was grim, descended the steps and stopped beside him.“Mr. Miller.”
Chase opened his eyes, seeing Ted’s furious gaze. He straightened, his usual aloofness returning.“Mr. Taylor.”
Ted punched him in the face. Chase stumbled, gripping the wall. He turned slowly, wiping the blood from his lip. He didn’t retaliate; he could easily have overpowered Ted. Ted’s voice was cold. “My sister is our family’s princess, raised with utmost care. Any little scratch breaks our hearts. A single tear brings the entire family to comfort her. But you subjected her to humiliation and distress! You let your ex–girlfriend cyberbully her! You let
your so–called friend abuse and insult her! And as her boyfriend, you didn’t trust her! You were protecting
hother woman while she was attacked with paint and eggs!”

Chase’s eyes welled up. Each word was a blade, tearing at his soul.
He said heavily,“I was wrong. Do whatever you want.”

Ted snorted.“If it were up to my father and me, we’d destroy you and your company!” A chill ran through Chase; he knew that if they wanted, they could destroy him easily. Ted continued, “But Scarlett told us to let you go! She said it was her fault, not yours! Can you believe how kind and foolish she is?! She gave you her whole heart, and you just stepped on it!”
A sharp pain pierced Chase’s chest; tears welled in his eyes.
Ted issued a cold warning.“She’s married now. I just hope you won’t bother her again. Otherwise…”
