The man was someone I had arranged. Vanessa was eager to marry Jeremy, but her behavior was too
suspicious.
I asked a friend of mine to help investigate. One day, my friend discovered that Vanessa secretly handed a bag of
money to a man, telling him never to appear again.
My friend followed the man to his place.
At first, the man refused to say anything, but my friend mentioned Jeremy.
“What’s this little bit of money Vanessa gave you? She wants to marry Jeremy, a well–known wealthy man. This

“What’s this little bit of money Vanessa gave you? She wants to marry Jeremy, a well–known wealthy man. This
amount is nothing more than a way to get rid of you.”
The man, enraged, spilled everything about how Vanessa seduced him and got pregnant.
Originally, he had just intended to extort some more money on the wedding day, but when Vanessa pretended not to know him and publicly humiliated him, he couldn’t take it anymore and revealed everything.
“Gracie, is this my own fault? I only just realized that I had happiness from the beginning, but I was too greedy and lost it. If it’s possible, Gracie, can you forgive me? Can we start over?”
Jeremy looked at me with determined eyes, but I shook my head.
“Jeremy, back when I couldn’t hear, I relied on you to share everything with me. I understood the world through whatever you said. Slowly, when you stopped talking to me, I felt trapped in a small world, full of insecurity, unable to
break free.”
“Now, I’m doing well. I don’t want to go back to the past. Let’s leave each other with some good memories.”
I didn’t give Jeremy a chance to respond.
He tried to stop me, but I had already run off.
After that, Jeremy came to my small courtyard every month and stayed for a few days.
He didn’t speak much, just silently helping with things like watering the plants and digging the soil.
If I invited him for dinner, he would chatter away, sharing the interesting people and events he encountered.
We lived like friends.
This continued for years, until I met another man andrew.
Being with him made me start thinking about marriage again.
Jeremy sensed a rival in Andrew.
He occasionally asked, “Who is Andrew? What’s your relationship with him?”
Each time, I would just smile and avoid answering.
“I’m just asking. We’ve known each other for so long, if you’re looking for someone, I should make sure he’s right
for you.”
When Jeremy said this, his eyes were filled with tears. He knew there was no chance left for us to get back
together.
“We’re getting married. He’s local and I feel comfortable being with him.”
After that conversation, Jeremy didn’t come to the small courtyard anymore.
On the wedding day, I slowly walked across the grass towards Andrew.
Andrew looked at me with genuine sincerity and before I could reach him, he ran toward me.
We linked arms and walked together up to the stage.
I didn’t see Jeremy the entire time, but it wasn’t until a friend said, “Who gave such a big gift?”
Then I realized Jeremy had been there.
He came with blessings. I thought to myself, he will probably find his own happiness too.
