After having run through the busy morning streets, I’m finally home after having spent the night at Caleb’s flat. Even though it’s early, my dad’s car isn’t in the driveway. He
the working early, and I assume it’s only my mom who’s at home, which
is a huge relief. I wouldn’t want my dad to find out that I didn’t come home last night…
My mom, however, is probably still sleeping. So all I have to do is open the door in slow motion and be real quiet, so she won’t wake up.
Sadly, it seems my mom has spider senses.
I jump the second 1 open the door because my mom is already standing in the hallway as if she had been expecting me.
is she psychic or something?
My mom’s pudgy arms are crossed over her chest, and there’s this look on her face that tells me she won’t let me off the hook before I tell her where I’ve spent the night.
This is one of the cons of still living with my parents…c
In this house, it doesn’t matter that I’m eighteen. My mom has explained that I’m her little baby for as long as I live in her house. And if I don’t show up for dinner, I’m expected to inform her, and yesterday, I didn’t come home or send her a text message–I have some grilling to look forward to.
“So,” she drawls. “Whose the lucky guy?”
I stare at her in disbelief. “Excuse me?”
Her eyes roll. “Oh, come on, Leah. I’m not stupid! I’ve been young once, and I know exactly what that wild look in your eyes? means–you spent the night with a guy.”
“I“I blush, unsure what to tell her.
She has hit the bullseye and could probably work as a detective, but I couldn’t possibly tell her that I spent the night with Caleb Steele. If I did, she would probably have a heart attack. Caleb is a year older than my dad and also his boss–if my mom found out his head was between my legs yesterday, hell would break loose.
“I was just watching movies with a friend,” I lie, avoiding eye contact. “We lost track of time, and I ended up crashing at her place. I’m sorry I didn’t text you.”
My mom’s eyes narrow skeptically. “A friend, huh? What’s her name?”
Fuck, what do I tell her? It’s embarrassing to admit, but I don’t have any friends, and she knows it! The only person I hang out with is my cousin, Aurora, but she can’t keep a secret to save her life, so it would be a bad idea to he and say I slept at her place.
“Well!” my mom asks with an innocent motherly smile that tells me she is excited I’ve made a friend–poor woman. If only she knew what I’ve been up to…
“Her name is ehh…Ashley!”
“Ashley? The young girl who works at the bookshop?”

I fidget under her scrutinizing gaze. “N–no, not that Ashley. This is a different Ashley from my midnight art class.”

“Mhmm,” she hums, clearly not buying it. “And does this Ashley happen to be a boy who somehow got into your pants last night?

“What? I wasI’m not born yesterday, Leah. I know how these things go.” She sighs heavily. “Just promise me you’re being safe and smart. The last thing you need is to get knocked up and derail your future.”
The irony of her warning isn’t lost on me, considering I lost my virginity less than twenty–four hours ago to a man nearly twice my age. We didn’t even use a condom! But I force a reassuring smile.
“Don’t worry, Mom. I’m not going to do anythin earned money from my summer job.”

She studies me a moment longer before relenting with a soft sigh “College will be good for you. I’m sorry me and your dad can’t afford to pay the whole thing for you, but Caleb has promised to give you a good salary, yes?”
I nod, my stomach twisting at the mention of Caleb. “Yeah, he’s being very generous with the pay. It should help a lot with tuition and expenses.”
“That’s good. He seems like a decent man, even if he is wealthy. Just remember to keep things professional, okay? After the summer is over, you will not work with him anymore, but your father will.”
“I’m aware of that, and you don’t have to worry; I won’t disrespect. Caleb no matter what tasks I’m given.”
“Good,” a satisfied smile spreads over her lips until she seems to think of something else. “And also, don’t get any ideas just because he’s handsome and successful.”
I nearly choke on my own spit. If only she knew just how “unprofessional” things had already gotten between me and my new boss. But I plaster on an innocent smile.
“Of course, Mom. Caleb is just my boss for the summer, nothing more. I would never risk my future or reputation by getting involved with him.”
The lies taste bitter on my tongue, but I can hardly confess the truth–that I’ve already spread my legs for the billionaire and let him take my virginity in the back of his luxury car. My mom would have an aneurysm if she knew.
Luckily, she suspects nothing and pats my shoulder. “That’s my smart girl. Now go on and get some rest. You look exhausted.”
I am exhausted, but not for the reason she thinks.
Still, I couldn’t possibly tell her the reason I’m walking funny is because 1 was impaled by Caleb’s huge cock, so I force a smile, “Yeah, I was up late watching movies. I’m going to catch a few hours of sleep before I have to meet up with Caleb. He wants to show me the basics of the job before 1 officially start on Monday.”
“Oh, that’s a great idea!”
“Y–yeah, so I need some sleep,” I keep the smile on my face after speaking and give my mom a quick peck on the check before heading upstairs to my bedroom.
Once I’m halfway upstairs, I turn around. “Mom?”

“Yes, sweetie?”
“Caleb Steele…is he married?”
Her face immediately scrunches up as if she doesn’t like the question before she answers. “He used to be.”
“Used to be?”
“Yes. Your father and I were invited over for dinner two years ago and Caleb was happily married to Lana, but…something. happened, and they went through with a divorce… Why are you sking?”
“No reason! I was just curious!”

“You’re not up to something, are you?”
“Pilt, no. Of course not!”
I continue walking to my room, and as soon as the door clicks shit behind me, I flop face–first onto my pillow, letting out a muffled groan. Why am I already stalking Caleb? I shouldn’t have asked about his previous marriage since it’s none of my business. Shit. Just what have I gotten myself into?
If I keep sleeping with Caleb or asking questions, my mom
