Lydia combdn’t wrap her head around it. She was seriously ticked off and couldn’t believe it.

No, there has to be some sneaky reason behind all this. There’s no way Evalina actually hooks up with Hugo!
Once the room emptied out, the manager scurried over, all smiles. “Mr. and Mrs. Hayes, everything’s squared away. I’ll catch y’all later.”
Evalina nodded and let go of Hugo. But just like that, Hugo clamped down on her wrist. Everyone’s eyes went wide as he hauled her out.
“Whos, Hugot What gives?” Evalina yelped.
As soon as they hit the fresh air outside, Hugo dropped her wrist, his eyes like chips of ice. “You happy now?” he snapped.
Evalina rubbed her wrist, wincing a bit. “Maybe”
Seeing how effortlessly Evalina used him as a pawn, Hugo was furing. “You threatened me, Evalina. You have any idea what that could lead to?” he saked, his voice low and serious.
Evalina looked him square in the eye. “I was just stating facts. I’m still your wife, for now. If word gets out I got bullied here, does that make you look goods
“You’re doing this on purpose!” Itugo accused. She’d never pulled this kind of stunt before.
“On purpose? I just wish I’d realized sooner how handy being Mrs. Hayes could be. I could’ve used it to smooth things over a long time ago.
“Anyway, with the divorce coming up, I guess I won’t get to enjoy that little perk for much longer,” Evalina said, a touch of frustration in her voice.
Hugo was left speechless.
Evalina looked at him, all innocence. “What’s the matter? You’re not gonna be that stingy and not let me use it for a few more days, are you?”
Hugo stood there, totally at a loss for words. Evalina turned away, her smile fading like smoke. He grabbed her shoulder and pushed her up against the wall
Evalina winced and frowned, “Hugo, what’s gotten into you?”
He glared at her. His eyes were on fire as he stared her down. “This is your last chance. Threaten me again and you know what’ll happen.”
Evalina felt a chill. She let out a bitter laugh. They were headed for divorce, and he still wouldn’t lift a finger to help her. If it were Olive in her shoes, he’d probably go after Lydia and her crew with everything he had. This really was a mood killer.
‘Let me go. Evalina said, her voice cold as she looked him straight in the eye.
Hugo didn’t budge.
Evalina suddenly laughed, looking at him with a smirk. “We’re practically divorced, and you’re still all up in my space. Hugo, are you having second thoughts of something? Trying to charm me with that move?” She lightly traced her fingers over his chest.
Hugo shuddered. Their eyes met, and he felt a strange warmth, like a jolt of electricity.
Evalina was wearing a plain T–shirt with a low neckline. He could see her fair skin. They were so close, that he could feel her body heat. With the slightest movement, they’d touch.
Hugo realized for the first time how good her figure was. Iler chest seemed fuller than he remembered.
“No way, what am I thinking” Hugo felt a wave of irritation and abruptly let her go, spinning around.
Evalina was left standing there, totally confused. She frowned and wondered, ‘What has gotten into Hugo? Is he seriously upset just because I touched him?
She just sheered, Hugo, seriously, what’s your issue? I’ve touched you a million times. Remember when you were drunk and I had to clean you up? I know every inch of you
“Evalina! That’s enough! Hugo snapped, whirling back around, his eyes blazing.

Huge felt a surge of frustration. He glared at Evalina one last time, then stormed off.
Evalina just shrugged, still pussled by his sudden mood swing
Right then, Vanessa came rushing up, her voice all excited. “Evalina!” She grabbed Evalina’s shoulders and gave them a good shake, “What’s this I’m hearing? Hugo’s your husband? No way!”
Evalina had totally spaced Vanessa out for a sec.

Vanessa had been holding back since Hugo showed up. Her mouth was hanging open, eyes bugging out, like she couldn’t believe any of this crazy stuff. “You said your husband was a regular Joe, Is this what regular looks like to you?” she asked.
Evalina took a look at Vanessa’s wild expression, rubbed her forehead, and said, “I didn’t level with you before. Didn’t know how. Hut honestly, no matter what was going on between me and Hugo, we’re done. Divorce is in the cards”
How’d you two even hook up? You kept it from me for three whole years!” Vanessa said, sounding a bit hurt.
Since Elegance Dining was comping them. Evalina said, “Let’s head inside and hash this out”
After that big scene, the staff was all over them, treating them like VIP’s, practically trying to spoon–feed them.
Vanessa shook her head. “Rich folks live in a whole another world… The staff here’s usually so snobby to us.”
Evalina wrapped up the story about her and Hugo. Vanessa slammed the table, looking ticked. “I can’t believe Hugo’s such a piece of work. Didn’t see that one coming.”
Evalina let out a sigh. “My bad for thinking I could make a marriage work with him.”
Hearing Evalina’s sigh, Vanessa tried to cheer her up. “Forget it. I get it. A guy who’s loaded and good–looking? He’s like a fantasy. Seeing him in the flesh is way more mind–blowing than on TV
Then Vanessa caught herself and shook her head again. “But he’s still a jerk for having a kid with someone else. Anyway, Evalina, we had a solid three years with him. We came out even.”
Evalina chuckled at that, had to admit Vanessa had a point.
“Wanna grab a drink to celebrate?” Vanessa suggested. “My bestie was involved with Hugo. We gotta toast to that.”
Evalina glanced down at her belly and said, “Maybe not drinks. I’ve got work to juggle. Can’t risk getting tipsy,”
“Alright then,” Vanessa agreed, with no hard feelings.
After saying goodbye to Vanessa Walden’s name popped up on Evalina’s phone. “Why the heck did you bail before your procedure?” he asked. sounding puzzled.
She chuckled, leaning back in my chair. “Procedure? Turns out, it was all a big mix–up at the hospital. I’m not having a baby or anything like that.”
“Seriously? Hospitals can mess up that bad?” Walden was all disbelief.
“Yeah, but hey, let’s not get into that. Listen, I just went through a divorce and might be in need of a roof over my head tomorrow. Any chance you could hook me up with a place?” she said, rubbing the back of her neck.
“Totally. There’s a sweet pad for rent near my office, You could totally crash there. It’s super close to work and my place,” Walden offered, trying to sound helpful
“Man, that would be a lifesaver. Thanks a ton, Walden,” Evalina said, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders.
Evalina got to Walden’s company super early the next day. She had no idea that as soon as she stepped outside, people were already buzzing.
“Theard there’s some new designer who just showed up out of the blue,” one coworker said.

“Maybe she’s Mr. Clarke’s girlfriend? I saw her go into his office. She’s pretty cute, another commented.
“If that’s the case, we’re all in for a rough time, a third added.
Meanwhile, Walden was inside with Evalina, handing her some papers. “The clients from your last project loved your sketches. They already sent the deposit. Here’s the contract. Take a look. They want you to finish the design work.”
Evalina thought for a moment. She wasn’t fully divorced from Hugo yet and was still technically Mrs. Hayes. If people found out, who knows what drama could ensue? All she wanted was a clean divorce.
“I can’t sign this with my name right now. Can we use the company’s name instead?” she asked.
“Sure, no problem. Let me go over the contract for you,” Walden said.
“Thanks a lot, Walden,” Evalina said, genuinely grateful.
“You kidding me? You should’ve come to me the moment you realized you married a jerk,” Walden replied, shaking his head.
