Chapter 33
Hugo glanced out the car window and took a good look at everything.

Evalina had been standing by the roadside, dressed in a simple short skirt and blazer, looking sharp. It had been a total contrast to her usual soft look at home. With her light makeup, tall figure, and fair skin, she had been turning heads.
Beside her was a guy in gold – rimmed glasses, looking gentle and bookish. He had been standing next to Evalina, holding the grocery bags while chatting with her casually, as she had stood empty–handed.
“Walden, I got this,” Evalina said, looking a bit embarrassed at Walden carrying all the bags.
“Nah, I got it. But you, you’re too skinny. You gotta eat more. You look like a breeze could knock you over,” Walden said, shaking his head. He had been wondering what kind of life she had had with her husband that left her so thin.
Evalina just shook her head, looking a bit helpless. As they were talking, a car engine revved up and came towards them. Evalina looked up and saw a fancy car speeding its way.
She tried to step aside, but Walden pulled her back, wrapping his arms around her as they both dodged the speeding car. In the process, the stuff in Walden’s hands went flying everywhere.
Walden shot up, his face twisted in annoyance. “What the heck? You trying to crash into us or something?” he grumbled, dusting off his pants.
Evalina’s eyes widened in surprise. That car seemed like Hugo’s. She was caught off guard, but before she could react, Walden was already striding over as the door swung open.
Hugo and Jasper were both dressed to the nines. Hugo, all in black, looked like he stepped out of a magazine with his sharp features and an air of cool indifference. He glanced at Walden, who was still grumbling, then at Evalina, his face as unreadable as ever.
Evalina felt a jolt. ‘Why’s Hugo here? This place is way off his usual path, far from the family estate and his office.
Walden was just as shocked. Hugo was a big deal, known around town. Seeing him get out, Walden knew they were in over their heads. Hugo was the type who could rattle the whole city with a snap. Whether he hit them or not, they weren’t getting any sympathy from him.
“Sorry… our brakes went out on us,” Jasper said, glancing at the indifferent Hugo.
Inside, he was fuming. ‘What’s Hugo’s problem, showing up like that? He’s supposed to be over Evalina, right? So why the sudden flare–up seeing her with another guy?‘
Walden took a deep breath and said, “No biggie…”
Hugo just stared at Evalina.
But Evalina wasn’t sticking around. She grabbed Walden’s arm and said, “Come on, let’s go. No point in hanging around.”
Walden dusted himself off, “Cool, let’s roll.”
He turned but noticed Evalina’s face turn serious as he tried to take her hand. “Hey, Evalina, you good? You know these peeps?”
