The next day was the company holiday party.
Mark left early.
On the table, he left a note:
I made the heart–shaped egg, eat it all. Or else.
I tore the note into pieces. I took my luggage
and left the house. I didn’t call a car because I
wanted to say goodbye to the city.
I was from the north, and I moved here after
college for Mark. I never got used to the
climate.
I remembered the time I ordered some northern
food and got really sick, throwing up all night.
Mark stayed with me all night.
When I woke up, he whispered, “You scared the
hell out of me.”

After that, he wanted to learn how to make
noodles.
It was so stupid. He tried to master something
that even I couldn’t.
I laughed remembering him covered in flour.
My tear dropped on the heart–shaped egg in
the container.
“This egg is nasty. What are you crying for?” A woman behind me said in a raspy voice.
