“I’ve already watched the footage from the old house,” Theodore said, his voice cutting through the tension. “It was you who set Faye up. You faked your heart attack to trick me into performing the transplant, all to get back at her mother! Fine, I admit it; I was a fool. But wh did Faye do to deserve this?!”
His voice broke with rising fury.
“She’s already lost her mother and had to endure the pain from the artificial heart. Why did you have to remind her of what her mother looked like before she died? Why provoke her like that, pushing her to the brink, making her want to die?!”
The truth hung heavy in the air and Rhea panicked, her eyes darting as she scrambled for a
defence

“Uncle, I, I didn’t mean it… I was just afraid. Afraid that if you had Faye, you wouldn’t care
about me anymore. I care so much about you…”
Theodore’s laugh was bitter, filled with disbelief.
“I’ve been married to Faye for seven years. Seven years, haven’t I cared for you enough?
Haven’t I treated you better than her?!”
“Rhea, stop lying,” Theodore’s voice was cold, each word laced with contempt. “What you care about isn’t me. It’s the vanity I can feed for you. Faye never fought for anything, so why do
you have to corner her like this?”
“If you hate her so much, then you don’t need her heart anymore.”

Rhea’s breath hitched, her hand instinctively clutching at her chest. “W–what do mean?” Theodore’s smile was chilling, a wicked gleam in his eyes. “I want you to return Faye’s heart. That way, she’ll be able to forgive me.”
Rhea’s fear was palpable, but she forced a laugh, trying to maintain control. “Fine, once I’ve replaced it with another heart, I’ll return it to Faye.”
But Theodore didn’t falter. Instead, he pulled out a surgical knife, shaking his head gently. “No, I’m going to find Faye now. I can’t bear to make her wait, not even for a second.”
The boomerang of her own actions had come back to strike her.
Panicking, Rhea turned to flee, but Theodore swiftly severed her Achilles tendon. “Rhea, sweetie, don’t you care about me?” he taunted. “If you do, then help me get Faye
back.”
Rhea’s screams filled the villa, desperate and blood–curdling.
After a long day at the art studio, Phoebe called.
She mentioned that the weather was warming up and that she had some free time tonight. She invited me to take a walk by the sea.
What I hadn’t expected was to run into Theodore again.
His face lit up with joy as he approached.
“Faye, is it really you? I thought I was seeing things. Faye, I’ve missed you so much…”
In his hands was a brown, light–proof container, the strong, unpleasant smell of something
foul seeping out.
Seeing my wary look, Theodore eagerly held it out to me.
“Faye, look, I’ve brought your heart back. While it’s still viable, let me perform the surgery for you. You won’t have to suffer with that artificial heart anymore.”
My heart?
And what about Rhea? Had she gotten a different heart?
“No,” I said flatly, “Phoebe already found a matching heart and performed the surgery. Please leave. I don’t want to see you again. I don’t want anything that’s been inside Rhea.

Donate it to someone who needs it.”
Apparently, this wasn’t the outcome he had expected, as Theodore stood there, frozen in
shock.
He had thought that by simply returning the heart, I would forgive him.
Phoebe, like a mother hen shielding her chick, stepped in front of me and cursed at
Theodore.
“You’re a scoundrel! We haven’t even made you pay for Faye’s mother’s death and here you are, showing up first? Faye doesn’t want you anymore, so get lost!”
Her words struck a chord with Theodore. He placed the bottle on the ground and then took a
step toward me.
But when he saw me take a step back, he halted.
In the past, every time he moved toward me, I would have rushed toward him without hesitation. But now, I stood my ground.
