He was choking me and I was losing air, I could barely speak, “Security!”
The door was slammed open and security
guards forced Jack away from me.
My dad tried to charge, but he was held too.
“You’re crazy, this is my company!”
I fixed my shirt and looked at them.
“Actually, you are wrong.”
“This is now Crawford Inc., my company.”

After the wedding, I had been in charge of
Crawford Inc.
Because of Jack, my dad never doubted me.

I watched Jack’s face twist. “Were you planning
this from day one?”
“You have always been using me as a
replacement for Hunter.”
“Chloe, all those years of care were lies,
weren’t they?”
He sounded desperate when he asked me that.
I thought, and I laughed:
“What makes you ask me that? We had a
business deal. You used me to get back at
Sierra and I used Jack to control my family.
“It was a transaction. Why would you ask for
real love?”

Thinking about him brought back those

I pulled a cigarette from my bag, bit down on it,
and waved at Jack. “See you around.”
In the evening, it started to rain.
I opened my phone and saw that Hunter had
posted.
He publicly called out the event’s host for
letting reporters into his room.
Someone commented: “So, were you really
there with that married woman?”
“Yes,” Hunter replied. “She’s the future boss.
What’s the big deal?”

The insults from Sierra’s fans were now on the
bottom.
Esports fans were not to be underestimated.
I was just sitting in my car, with a burning
cigarette when Hunter messaged me.
“Since when did we have a deal?”
“Don’t you trust that my investment will pay
off?”
He called.
I said, “You’ve just started, you don’t have to
do this.”
He was silent for a minute, like he was going to
a calm place.
“So, you are going to break up again?”

I pulled out another cigarette. “Hunter, you need
to focus on your job.”
He laughed, “Why do you think I’m back in the
States?”
“Why would I go back, after winning a world
championship, to a small team? You tell me.”
I knew that he was right.
He didn’t need to do all this just for show.
He was setting up a whole game because of

He was tired and he decided to tell me the
truth.
“Chloe, I can’t stop thinking about you, from
that summer.”
It was like somebody grabbed my heart and

The youngest, a boy named Sam, was wearing
his school uniform.
“Don’t mind us.”
Hunter said with an annoyed tone, then grabbed
my hand and pulled me to the table.
I pulled back, but he just grabbed me harder.
“Your teammates are still kids, we can’t do that
in front of them.”
Hunter paused and said, “They are not
innocent.”
“???”
I looked at them, and they were staring at
Hunter with hate in their eyes.

Hunter took his chopsticks and knocked on the
table. “Let’s eat.”
Everyone lowered their heads.
I had always felt the hate.
I had gotten used to feeling like I was always
walking on a thread, with nothing underneath to
hold me up.
But now, I had somehow landed safely.
After the dinner, the rain was worse.
The kids were saying goodbye: “See you,
boss!”
Then it was just Hunter and me.

He was looking at the rain, put his hands in his pocket, opened the door, and pulled me in.
I fell in his lap, and touched something that I shouldn’t have.
Hunter groaned, his ears and his neck turning bright red.
I pulled back, but he grabbed my hand.
“You always know where to look.”
His voice was filled with lust. “Now that you
grabbed it, don’t let go.”
I bit my lip. “…hot.”
One word, and Hunter just lost it.
He was barely in control, trying to breathe,
pulled me up, and put me in the seat next to
