Chapter 10
Silverstone’s pov
Derek’s eyes blazed with anger, brows knitted together in a fierce scowl. he turned to his Beta Karl,
“What is Klein talking about?”
“I have no knowledge of what this man over here is saying. I have never seen him before!” Karl glared, his nostrils flaring.
I watched them as they both explained themselves. Klein seemed to be very certain of what he was saying unlike Karl whose eyes kept darting around, showing signs of guilt.
“There’s no need to continue lying Karl, come off it, you’ve already been caught!” Klein still stood his ground, I know Klein and I definitely trust him. But Karl, I can’t say the same.
“You have not said a single word that I understand Klein, what did he do? Karl here is one of my most trusted Betas, if you’re going to accuse him then at least be bold enough to tell us what he did!” Derek fist tightened at the side, glaring with rage.
“Karl here is the same person I caught in the late Alpha’s chambers. I confronted him as his face was new and I was sure he had nothing to do in the Alpha’s room, but before I could get a hold of him, he ran, Leaving
“That’s a lie! I have never been to the Shadow pack all my life.” Karl interrupted, his eyes flickered with anxiety, masking guilt.
The environment was tense, when Klein mentioned my father, I became more interested. I knew Karl was hiding something because of the way he was nervously staring at Klein through the treaty processes in their council chambers.
Besides he was Derek’s man, who knows what they might be up to.
“You can’t make accusations without proof, Klein, what evidence do you have to back up your claims?!” Derek’s voice came like thunder and that immediately made the atmosphere tense.
I was very much interested in this part, maybe scared. What if Klein doesn’t have any evidence? He could be locked up in their dungeon for weeks.
Klein was quiet, I looked at him, trying to code some signals to him. My heart raced for a moment, I knew Klein was very smart but at this point, I think it’s safe to say that I was scared for Klein.
I couldn’t afford to go back to the pack without him, I hoped that he was sure of what he was saying else my fear might come
to pass.
When Klein didn’t respond, Derek’s rage grew like wildfire. He looked at me furiously, then Jared, then he looked back at
klein
“How dare you accuse my Beta of a crime without proof?! Is this how you go about causing trouble?” He paused for a while, looking left and right as he declared emphatically.
Klein didn’t say a single word in his defense, he watched Derek’s rage grow and spread its wings abroad like an eagle, but he remained calm. It was as if he enjoyed watching Derek frustrated.
“Guards:” Derek’s summoned his men and they all ran towards us,
“Arrest this man!” He growled, pointing at Klein and his palace Betas immediately rounded him.

Chapter 10
“Derek Derek, can we talk about this for a moment? Maybe there is a misunderstanding..” I tried to defend Klein but Derek shoved his hand in my face, signaling me to stop talking.
As they were about to take him away. Klein voiced out, his voice firm and unwavering. His face, bold like a lion.
“With all due respect, my king.” He started, slightly bowing to Derek. The moment he said a word, the tension in the atmosphere immediately eased up.
“I wasn’t allowed to finish my statement before I was rudely interrupted.”
He took some steps forward, for a while I thought he was the Alpha of the Crescent pack, his courage was extraordinary. “As I was saying.” He cleared his throat, his gaze fixed on Derek.
“I tried confronting Karl but he ran, leaving his sandals behind. The symbolic scandal of the Crescent pack.
I looked at the feet of the other Betas and they all wore the same scandal’s except Karl. My eyes widened in disbelief, I became more interested in the case.
*Do you mind explaining to us why you’re wearing different footwear?” I faced Karl, my face dripping with seriousness. “I already explained this before,” he turned to Alpha Derek, his hands instinctively raised in a defensive gesture.
“I lost mine in the forest the last time we went hunting. Karl explained hastily, he swallowed hard, the lump in his throat growing.
Derek was a little confused, he stared blankly, trying to follow along.
“There must be a misunderstanding somewhere Klein, Karl here had lost his scandals the last time he went hunting. Are you sure the scandal is of this pack?” His voice suddenly became calm, his rage evaporating into thin air.
“Initially I wasn’t sure, but seeing that your palace Betas wore the same scandals only confirmed my suspicions.”
“Where exactly is these scandal?” Derek asked, his voice low.
“It’s in a safe place, although I took a picture of it that day. Here it is…” he brought out his phone, displaying the picture to
Derek.
“Karl lost his, I’m sure. There must be a mixup somewhere. You all must be tired, let’s all retire for the day.” Derek said, dismissing his guards.
“With all due respect my king, we can’t overlook the fact that one of your palace Betas was found in our late Alpha’s room. A proper investigation should be carried out, we should get to the bottom of this.” Klein rejected his offer to retire for the day, that was brave, very commendable.
I didn’t even need to say anything. Klein took charge of the situation and handled it like a leader while I stood firm,
admiring his bravery and courage.
Admiring my man.
“I understand that you’re looking out for your pack, Klein, I’ll investigate this issue. Leave it to me.”
Derek turned to leave but Klein wasn’t done.
you almost got me arrested a few minutes ago, at least while we await the results of your investigation, a simple apology will suffice.”

Chapter 10
Derek apologized for the inconveniences and promised to get to the root of the problem. No doubt I was very proud Klein. Indeed, it’s better to be quiet and a strategic thinker than a loud dog.
All through the confrontation Jared said nothing, it was like he wasn’t there, like he wanted Klein to be put to shame.
We all retired for the night. I couldn help but think of Klein. Indeed, he is a true leader.
The next day, we headed home. We left very early in preparation for the Moon light festival
I turned to Jared who has been unusually quiet all through our trip.
“Is there a problem, you’ve been a little too quiet lately?”
“Everything is fine. I just have a little headache” he said coldly. I wish he had that headache everyday, at least he won’t bark or talk me to death
We arrived at our pack and were graciously welcomed, now I was back to my den and was faced with the problems of the Shadow pack.
It was like the troubles of the pack were patiently waiting for me, especially that picture of Jared and Lisa that I found. What was Lisa in that picture?
