Chapter 14
Silverstone’s pov
The guards furiously ran after her, but surprisingly, she outran all of them, all of them! How did she even get access into this. place?
For her to be able to reach Marcus‘ cell, it only means one thing.
That there’s a mole among the guards.
A lot of secrets were lurking in the Shadow pack, no one was to be trusted. Not even my sister.
Despite how much I tried to trust her, a lot of things weren’t just adding up.
It crossed my mind that that person was listening to our conversation
It means that Marcus‘ fears might come to a reality if I don’t act fast. If they get to his wife and child before us, then… it’ll be a sorry case. Plus I already gave him my word, and I can’t afford to fail or let him down.
I thought to inform the prison guards to go and bring his family to the pack but stopped myself.
I needed someone I could trust, someone like Klein.
I hastily brought my phone from my purse and called Klein.
“Where are you? There’s an emergency in the prison.” I said, my voice tense.
“I’m close by, I could get there in 30 minutes. Why? Is there a problem?” His voice dripped with curiosity,
“30 minutes? That’s too much time. There’s no need to come here. I’ll text you an address, go there and bring the pregnant woman and child to the pack immediately.” I commanded, there was no time for explanations
“… and go alone. No one must hear about this. I added, thank goodness that Klein was smart. He just agreed without asking further questions.
The call dropped dead and I left for the pack.
As I was about to drive off, something flashed my mind.
The piece of torn a picture on the floor, and the one I found in my room after Serena left were alike.
And Serena was definitely the only person I told of my visit to Marcus – it began to make sense. Her sudden change of mood, the picture I had seen in Jared’s office and the pieces I just found?! All the evidence was now pointing towards Serena being an accomplice.
I tried not to believe my guts, but what if she tore the picture I found in Jared’s office and stuffed inside her pocket only for them to fall out?
And then replaced it with a picture of Jared and Lisa? But why?!
It just didn’t make any sense.
But on a second thought, Serena is weak, she couldn’t have outsmarted those men. But what if the guards worked for Jared and let her escape?

“No,” I muttered within myself, I saw her take off, her speed was nothing like 1 had ever seen. Only the rarest wolves ran with such speed.
Only the primordial wolves possessed such speed and Serena wasn’t a primordial wolf.
I needed to be sure it was Serena, so I quickly went back home.
I exploded through the front door, my heart thumping my ribs. There was too much silence in the house. I didn’t care to remove my boots as I hurried across the entryway, leaving damp footprints on the hardwood floor,
The living room stood empty, afternoon shadows stretching across abandoned throw pillows. Serena’s favorite blanket lay crumpled on the couch, one sleeve of her oversized sweater peeking out from beneath it. Still warm.
“Serena?!” I thundered, walking to her room. My voice bounced off the walls, coming back to me hollow and empty.
Sere…” I paused, looking again at the figure on the bed, I wanted to be sure she was the one.
“Sis…” she let out a soft moan as she slowly opened her eyes.
“Where have you been?” I asked, I gasped, completely taken aback by her presence. I had hoped to see her empty room. “I.. I’ve been sleeping. What’s the problem?” Her voice, shaky. Her hair was slightly disheveled, her eyes were sleepy with heavy eyelids. Her breathing remained deep and steady which shows that she has been sleeping for a long while. “No…nothing really. I just got home so I thought to check up on you.” I stuttered, trying to swallow my suspicion. “Came back from where? I thought you were resting for tomorrow’s festival?” She raised her eyebrow, clearly baffled.
“I had gone to check up on Marcus. I told you earlier. Remember?” I snapped.
“Oh! That’s true. I forgot.” She stretched herself, it was as though she was battling with sleep.
“How did it go?”
“You’re sleepy, I will talk about it when you wake up fully.” I left her room and shut the door behind me.
What is going on? Is someone trying to frame my sister? Or is she really involved in all this?

1 was confused, a lot of things ran through my mind at the same time. Just then, Elish passed by. I remember that Serena had told me that she sent her on an errand.
“Elish.” I called, my voice hasty,
“Ma… greetings my queen.”
I wasn’t interested in her pleasantries, I wasn’t in the mood.
“Earlier today, did you send Serena on an errand?”
“I don’t understand my queen,”
“I mean, did you tell her to get anything for you?” My brow slightly raised and my heart raced with the speed of light.
I asked the question but yet I was scared of the answer as it could change a lot of things about my relationship with her –

about my relationship with my step sister.
“Yes, I sent her to get something from the store. I needed it urgently, my queen, I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, you can go” I dismissed her, wiggling my hands in the air.
At this point, it was safe to say that I was tired. Maybe the vision of my future wasn’t a blessing after all.
Maybe it was a curse.
My phone rang and it was Klein, I was a bit excited. At least I’d get good news today, even if it’s just this one.
“Klein? What’s the update, where are you?” I queried, my voice hoarse.
“Silverstone, there’s a problem.” Klein said, his voice weak.
“What happened?” I could barely hear what he was saying, his line breaking badly.
“Hello? Klein?! Can you hear me?! Hello?” I squalled, but there was no response from his end then the call dropped.
“What is going on?” I muttered to myself, what could the problem be?
I was expecting that Klein would at least give me some good news and he just talked about a problem – another problem!
I waited for him to call back – even tried calling him severally, but it was to no avail. I was worried, I died pregnant in my past life and I couldn’t bear to watch another woman go through the same trauma.
My phone beeped again and this time, it was an unknown number.
“Hello? Who’s this?” I asked, but there was no response.
“Hello?!”
“Hello Silverstone, it’s Klein. I was attacked on my way there. I am admitted at Gray Nok hospital. Please come as soon as you can.” The call dropped.
“What?!”
