Miranda’s breath hitched in her throat, and she tightened her grip on the phone instinctively.
However, the phone screen wasn’t locked as she was still holding onto her phone. Her fingers accidentally brushed against the WhatsApp interface.
After a short ringing tone was heard, Lionel’s voice boomed “Mimi, why are you calling again? Is there something else?”
Both of them froze. Paul didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly.
Lionel continued, “Why is your screen so dark? Is your camera off?”
Miranda glanced at her phone briefly. Luckily, her hand was covering the camera. She took a deep breath to calm herself. “Dad, I accidentally pressed your number and called you. I’ll hang up now, okay?”
“Hey, don’t be in such a hurry! Wait a minute! How are the two pots of hydrangeas on the balcony doing? Turn on your camera and let me have a look.”
“Right now?”
“What’s wrong? Are you busy?” Lionel asked, puzzled.
“Not really.”
“Then hurry up. It’s been a few months, right? They should be blooming by now.”
Miranda answered quickly, “Yes, they are. Some of the larger blooms are growing beautifully.”
Lionel sounded excited. “Really? Take a picture for me! I bought those plants from a blind box I ordered online. I don’t even know what color the flowers are.”
Miranda was at a loss as to what she should do.
“Mimi, are you still there? Why is your camera off?”
When she didn’t reply, Lionel continued, “Hello? Hello? Did your phone freeze?”
Miranda’s mind raced for an answer. “Um. It’s dark out, and the balcony lighting isn’t great. You wouldn’t see much. How about I take some pictures and send them to you? You’ll see more clearly that way.”

In the end, she managed to end the call successfully.
Miranda remembered to lock the screen this time. After confirming it, she turned to laugh at Paul. “Go on, why did you stop kissing?”

“Dr. Jefferson, are you scared of my dad?”

“You froze completely when you heard his voice just now.
He finally spoke, “You little rascal. You seem to be enjoying this way too much.”
