Hendrix grew exasperated. When he heard the sound of the door lock turning, he lifted his head and barked, “Get lost!”
The single, decisive shout silenced everything outside instantly. Even the woman in his arms went completely still.
Noelle seemed to realize that her resistance was futile. The hands she had been pressing against his chest slowly dropped away, and even the tears in her eyes vanished in that moment.
She slowly sank back and tilted her head upward. Then, she simply stared at the glaring incandescent light with eyes filled with emptiness.
Hendrix stared at her for a while before suddenly laughing. Are you really that upset? Or do you feel wronged? Does it really hurt you so much to leave him?”
He was smiling, even forcing a mocking tone into his words, but his hands were trembling uncontrollably. It was a pain that started deep in his chest, spreading through his bloodstream until it reached his fingertips.
Noelle didn’t answer him, but her expression was as good as acknowledging his words.
Hendrix couldn’t help but laugh again. “Al, so it seems that’s the case. How about this? I’ll give you both another chance. What do you think?”
Noelle slowly turned to look at him.
The look in her eyes, as though she had found a lifeline, made Hendrix press his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
But he eventually calmed down and continued, “I’ll ask Dylan out and show him the documents from earlier. If he insists on going through with marrying you, I won’t pressure you anymore. I’ll even give you both my blessing
“What do you think, Noelle? Do you dare to take that gamble with me?”
Noelle stayed silent..
Hendrix chuckled. “What’s the matter? Are you afraid? Weren’t you just talking about how wonderful he is? Or do you think when it comes to you and-”
Before he could finish, Noelle interrupted him, “Okay.”
Hendrix’s expression slowly faded.
Noelle looked at him. “I’ll take the gamble.”
“Good.” Hendrix nodded repeatedly. “But remember this, Noelle. If you lose, you’ll have to stay by my side willingly. Can you do that?”
Noelle closed her eyes. “Okay.”
Hendrix smiled and slowly released her hands. Then, he sat back down on the couch and called Dylan.
Even now, his hand continued to tremble. But it wasn’t from sadness–it was from real, physical pain. The earlier collision had left the back of his hand bright red and throbbing. But he acted as if he didn’t feel a thing and simply dialed Dylan’s number.
“We need to talk,” he said the moment the call connected, is voice calm and emotionless. “Right now.”

Hendrix and Dylan arranged to meet at a club in Coppersvil
It was already late into the night. But in this city, the night was far from over–its endless revelry was just beginning.
