Hendrix didn’t reply. Instead, he simply tossed the folder in his hand to Dylan.
Dylan glanced down at the folder. Something flickered across his eyes, but in the end, he reached out and took it.
The moment he skimmed the first few pages, his face turned as pale as a sheet, and his grip on the documents tightened instinctively.
After a moment, Dylan finally looked at Hendrix. “What’s the meaning of this?”
Hendrix let out a soft laugh. “What do you think it means?”
Dylan quickly regained his composure and asked, “Where did you get these?”
“That’s not something you need to concern yourself with.”
“So? What do you want?”
Sitting on the couch, Hendrix leisurely poured him a glass of wine and took a sip. Throughout the entire process, he maintained his usual elegance and composure, whereas Dylan’s expression grew darker and darker.
Finally, Hendrix said, “What do I want? I thought I’d already made it very clear.”
“Mr. Freeman, we’re both men. Don’t you think using tactics like this is despicable?” Dylan asked
expressionlessly. “The same goes for the Elm Group incident. You’re just abusing your position as a high–ranking figure in Amity Group to act so recklessly.”
“Yeah, you’re right. I was abusing my position, but is there a problem with that?” Hendrix asked seriously. Besides, if you were truly clean, why would you be afraid of what I’m doing?”
Dylan fell silent.
Hendrix couldn’t be bothered to waste his breath on him anymore. “What I want is simple–end your engagement with Noelle, and these documents will remain between you and me. Otherwise, don’t blame me for what happens
next.”
Dylan stayed silent, but the tension in his grip on the documents grew stronger, so much so that the back of his hand had become riddled with bulging green veins.
“This is actually a pretty good deal for you, no?” Hendrix continued in a serious tone. “Unless, of course, you’re truly willing to destroy your own future andrag your grandfather’s reputation down with you. Oh, and one more thing Elm Group as it stands now? You can’t save it.”
Dylan had been ready to argue, but each of Hendrix’s words fell like heavy stones, crushing him under their weight until he could barely breathe.
He closed his eyes for a brief moment before saying, “I can give up Noelle now, and the wedding is already-”
“Oh, so you’ve decided to give up on your grandfather instead, have you?”
Dylan had no response. In truth, he had always known that everything he’d done would eventually come to light. The moment his hand touched the edge of the tainted world, there was no way to keep it clean
Still, he had clung to a sliver of naive optimism. After all, as long as he was careful enough, it shouldn’t have been so easy for anyone else to uncover. But what Dylan had never expected was to end up entangled with Hendrix- especially as a romantic rival.
