The figure was thin–almost frail–but carried a reckless, desperate madness.
Instinct took over. The moment she lunged forward, Noelle’s first reaction was to shield her abdomen.
A wave of sheer terror overwhelmed her. Her mind instantly flashed back to the moment on the staircase–when Sandra had pushed her down.

Sandra kept screaming. It all seemed to be vile and malicious curses, but Noelle had already forgotten the details.
Just as Noelle was feeling relieved that she was unharmed, she suddenly heard panicked screams from the crowd.
“Call a doctor!”
Why would they call for a doctor? She didn’t understand.

Sandra was immediately taken to the police station, though word had it that Nathan bailed her out.
Noelle had been at the hospital for the past two days, Dan was the one who told her all of this. She sat there, listening, her face devoid of expression.
“Mrs. Freeman, would you like to go home and rest for a while? I’ll be here at the hospital with the caregivers, so rest assured nothing will happen,” Dan added.
Noelle nodded, but she didn’t move.
Dan seemed like he wanted to say more, but before he could, Noelle suddenly asked, “But if I leave, will he be disappointed when he wakes up?”
