Hendrix had initially maintained a blank expression as he looked at Seline. But the moment her words landed, his gaze darkened instantly. “What do you mean by ‘not going home‘?”
“Oh, don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about. You really think the rest of us are blind and deaf?” Seline became more worked up as she spoke.
Noelle went up to stop her, but Seline swiftly pushed her hand away, “Stay out of this! I have to get this straight today!”
With that, she turned back and glared at Hendrix. “Come on Tell us! What’s going on between you and that woman? Everyone in our circle is talking about it.
“Don’t tell me that with all your connections, you have no idea? Or is it that you simply have no retort because it’s the truth?
“You’re unbelievable! How long has it even been since you and Noelle made up? If I had known this was going to happen, I would’ve stopped her back then–made sure she never forgave you at all!”
After Seline finished speaking, Hendrix seemed to have calmed down. He then turned his gaze toward Noelle, as if silently asking whether she, too, doubted him.
But she remained silent, standing quietly without giving anything away.
“This is a matter between my wife and me. There’s no need for you to concern yourself, Ms. Swift.”
With that, Hendrix reached out and took Noelle’s hand.
His indifferent attitude only fueled Seline’s anger. She was just about to step forward and stop them when Noelle turned to look at her.
Seline froze in place.
Noelle gave her a small smile as a way of telling Seline not to worry before allowing Hendrix to lead her out.
Hendrix had driven himself over. When they reached the car, he didn’t need to say a word. She obediently opened the door, got in, and even buckled her seatbelt.
Her calm demeanor left Hendrix momentarily at a loss for words.
Seated in the driver’s seat, he gripped the steering wheel before finally asking, “What did Seline say to you?”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Noelle turned her head to look at him. She studied him for a moment before replying, “What do you think?”
“Don’t listen to their nonsense,” Hendrix said, slowly clenching his teeth. “There’s no other woman. Don’t tell me you don’t know who my heart belongs to. Do you have any idea how scared I was today? I thought you had just disappeared without a word.”
After he finished, Noelle merely curled her lips into a faint smile. “Where could I even go?”
Hendrix fell silent.
“Drive. I want to go home,” Noelle said, closing her eyes.
Hendrix held back for a moment before finally asking, “You really don’t have anything you want to ask me?”
“If I ask, will you actually tell me?” Noelle kept her eyes closed. “Just like Selíne said—you knew what people had been saying, yet you chose not to tell me anything.
