Hendrix’s expression visibly changed when Noelle finished speaking.
But he quickly composed himself and said, “That night, someone called me, saying you had been taken to Olivia’s place. And that’s why I went. But when I got there, I never even saw Olivia.
“She had locked herself in the bathroom and then jumped from the balcony. I have no idea why she did that. There was really nothing going on between us!”
Hendrix sounded a little hollow as he gave his explanation.
Noelle simply stood there, listening intently. She didn’t interrupt him, but neither did she give him any response.
Hendrix watched her closely with a slight frown.
“This is all a setup by Nathan!” he added quickly. “I shouldn’t have let my guard down. I never imagined he would actually push Olivia to her death. But don’t worry. I’ll take care of this matter. You just-”
“That’s enough,” Noelle abruptly cut him off.
Her voice was light, yet it stripped Hendrix’s expression away little by little.
He looked at her. “What do you mean?”
“You already said it yourself–this was all a setup by Nathan. Which means, this is a power struggle between you two, isn’t it? I really hate being dragged into these things. This time, I only got a cut on my face. But what about next time? Who knows if I wouldn’t lose my life then?”
Hendrix fell silent.
Noelle continued, “And this time, it’s really serious, isn’t it? I mean, Amity Group’s stock price is an absolute disaster. The shareholders will demand you pay for this mess. I trust that you know exactly what position you’re in right now, no?”
“So, what exactly are you trying to say?” Hendrix asked.
Noelle had been speaking calmly, but Hendrix’s sudden interruption made her pause for a moment.
Then, she looked at him and said, “Hendrix, you’re a smart man, so you should already understand what I’m trying to say.”
“I don’t,” Hendrix replied without hesitation.
Noelle pressed her lips together before speaking again, “I think it’s best if we-”
“Shut up, Noelle!” Hendrix suddenly realized what she was about to say, so he interrupted her before she could finish.
The words were blunt, and there was a distinct gritted force behind them. His grip on her shoulders unmistakably tightened.
Noelle glanced down at his hands, then said, “So, you do understand, after all.”
Hendrix didn’t answer immediately.
His chest was rising and falling sharply as he took a deep breath, as if he were gathering his emotions.
Then, he said slowly, “You’re angry because of what people are saying about me and Olivia, right? I really had nothing to do with her. How do you want me to prove it? Hmm?”

Noelle met his gaze and simply replied, “No.”
“What?”
“I don’t care about your relationship with Olivia anymore. I just don’t want to be dragged down by you. Everyone knows that Nathan is about to take over Amity Group, and after everything you’ve done to him–do you really think he’ll let you go once he’s in power?
“And when that happens, it won’t just be you. I, and our child, will suffer because of you, too. Hendrix, you once said you’ll try your best to be a good father. Then, you should understand how I feel as a mother, right?”
As Noelle spoke, she looked straight at him with a slight frown.
