Before being hit and killed by my
girlfriend’s bamboo horse, I went
crazy
Chapter 1
Last life, my girlfriend’s childhood buddy, that
jerk, was running around pretending to be
some trust fund kid.
I blew his cover, and he got so pissed he tried
to turn me into roadkill.
As I was bleeding out, my girlfriend’s sister
was on her knees, begging my girlfriend to
help me.
She just stood there like ice.
“No way. Brad’s way too important to waste
his time on some nobody like him. Just
because you’re dating me doesn’t mean you
can get all entitled. Know your place!”
Her sister stayed on her knees for three days
<
straight, before Brad dragged her away and
treated her like garbage until she died.
Right up until my heart flatlined, my girlfriend
was still covering for Brad, refusing to believe
he’d run me over or hurt her sister.
This time around, I didn’t waste my breath
begging my girlfriend to visit me in the
hospital.
I called my brother, Jake, instead.
“Jake, some dude’s pretending to be me and
making a mess of things. Get someone to
handle it.”
“Also, that engagement with the Landrys? I’m
calling it off. I want Ashley, not Brittany.”
I’d thrown a ton of resources at the Landry
family over the years, and they’d raised a
spoiled brat.
I wanted to see how Brittany and her little
boyfriend did without my help.
…
<
“Ethan! You embarrassed me in front of
everyone tonight. You’re gonna regret that!
You were so smug exposing me. Did you ever
think this was gonna happen to you?”
“You’re just some poor guy. Brittany doesn’t
even like you. Even if I turn you into paste out
here, she’ll protect me. You believe that!”
Brad’s words, all too familiar, rang in my ears,
but I couldn’t react.
Then I felt the blinding headlights getting
closer, and the engine roared as it ran me
down.
That’s when I knew I’d been reborn.
I was back at the moment Brad decided to
use me as a speed bump.
My phone lay shattered nearby, and
somehow, it had dialed Brittany.
Her voice, cold and annoyed, came through
the speaker.
“Ethan, stop calling me. I know you’re just
く
jealous of Brad and me. You’re just trying to
stir up trouble.”
“Brad wouldn’t run you over. His car costs a
fortune, not worth totaling it just to get rid of
you. I don’t believe you, no matter what!”
Then, silence, waiting for my reaction.
But I didn’t plead or try to convince her that
Brad was a monster, like I did before.
Instead, after watching Brad speed away, I
struggled to hang up.
I used the last of my battery to call Jake.
When he picked up, I gasped through the
pain, “Jake, help me.”
My ears were ringing so badly I couldn’t hear
what he said.
But I knew my brother would be there.
I was his baby brother, and the future co-
owner of the Walker family business.
My family was overprotective.
Letting me date Brittany while hiding my
identity had been as far as they would allow
me to push it.
If they found out someone had hurt me,
they’d make him wish he’d never been born.
I was dragging myself to the side of the road
when Brad suddenly came back.
He rolled down the window, his eyes dark and
gleeful. “Brittany said you weren’t dead.
Guess she was right.”
