Chapter 15
My parents planned to meet my brother at the
restaurant.
With a lollipop dangling from his mouth, he slouched carelessly in his chair, exuding a
nonchalant attitude.
“Regretting it now, are you? I knew you’d come crawling back. I want an extra ten grand.”
My parents‘ faces were icy, their eyes fixed on him as they slowly enunciated each word: “From now on, we’re cutting ties.”
I was startled, glancing at them, thinking they were joking, yet their eyes held a firm resolve.

My brother’s smirk froze, shock washing over him as he looked up.
“What?”
Then his expression shifted to feigned
realization.
“Oh, I see, you’re trying to threaten me, tie me to you for life? No way!”
My mom’s voice was choked with emotion: “Your sister was self–reliant outside, but you cut off her last escape, worsening her illness.”
“You deliberately pushed her to her death.”
Realizing he was exposed, my brother dropped the pretense.

“And what about you? You biased folks, why blame me? You didn’t treat her well when she was alive, and now you fake loving her? Aren’t you disgusting?”
Clearly, they had no intention of arguing further and stood up.
“That’s all we have to say. We’re going to handle your sister’s affairs now.”
Desperately, he grabbed dad’s sleeve.
“What about my three thousand bucks?
“I owe money. If you don’t give it to me, you’re driving me to my death!”
Dad shook him off without a backward glance and started to leave.

Unexpectedly, a thug who had been lurking
in the shadows rushed out and stabbed dad
repeatedly.
Stunned, my brother was dragged away by the thug as they fled past my spirit.
Mom frantically tried to staunch dad’s bleeding, crying out, “Call 911!”
Dad was gravely injured, and all mom could do was sob incessantly outside the ER.
Before a few hours had passed, chaos erupted again at the hospital.
Two boys, speeding on motorcycles, crashed disastrously.

One lost half his helmet, the other, helmetless,
died instantly.
And that boy, was my brother, Sol.
Mom’s hair turned white almost overnight.
Outside the window, snow began to fall again. I watched my mom kneeling in the hospital hallway, full of remorse.
“Stella, if I hadn’t been biased, would things have turned out differently?”
“We regret it! Please forgive us!”
It’s all in the past….
I turned around, a light gradually brightening
behind me.

At the end of that road, I finally saw the one I had been longing for.
Grandma smiled warmly and waved at me.
“Sweetheart, come here, let Grandma carry
you.”

When my sister returned to the country for treatment, my husband actually cut out my liver
to save her.
And he blames me for not having a family love.
The biggest mistake I made was to keep feeding you bloodsuckers.
After I filed for divorce, he regretted it.
