Chapter 4
I was in the office, explaining to my subordinate the precautions for meeting clients.
From outside the door, I heard arguing.
I turned around to see my parents barging in, shoving the receptionist aside.
My mother yelled as she stormed in, ‘stay away from me! If you touch me, I’ll make sure you end up on the ground. I’ll make you pay!”
When she saw me, she shouted, “It’s this ungrateful wretch who’s abandoned the family. She’s ignoring her sick sister lying in the hospital, cold–hearted and unfeeling. Where’s the boss? Fire her immediately!”

I was extremely relieved that I hadn’t told them I was a partner in the company. Otherwise, they would have sucked me dry like leeches.
My colleagues exchanged glances, watching my
parents create a scene.
I looked on coldly, listening to them describe me as an ungrateful wretch. I grabbed the calculator from my subordinate’s desk and
slammed it onto the floor.
They fell silent instantly.
“Just because I didn’t want to donate a liver to
your beloved daughter, you want me to suffer, don’t you!”
I had given up all hope for them.

“You and your elder sister live in the house I paid for, she spend my money living luxuriously abroad, and now when she is sick, not only do you want me to pay, but you also want my liver. How could I ever agree to that?”
My colleagues looked at my parents with disapproval.
My mother, completely unapologetic, pointed at me and scolded, “You are my daughter; you should be filial to me. Lena is your sister, so you
should save her.”
“I won’t donate.”
“You ungrateful girl.” My mother suddenly charged at me and pushed me hard.

I didn’t react in time and hit my head on the edge of the table. I lost consciousness as everything went black.
When I opened my eyes again, my whole body felt numb, and I experienced a dull pain in my
chest when I breathed.
I glanced around and saw that I was wearing an oxygen mask, with tubes all over me.
Was I hurt this badly?
Nearby, two nurses were chatting.
“Has the patient named Morita not woken up yet?” The nurse speaking sounded anxious.
My name?

I listened closely.
The other nurse replied, “Not yet, but her vital signs have stabilized. Dr. Adams’s assistant will come by in half an hour to check on her.”
“Oh my God, Dr. Adams cut out the patient’s
liver without her consent. If this gets out, we’re all in trouble.”
I widened my eyes in shock. What did they
mean?
“Dr. Adams signed the consent form as the patient’s guardian, so it should be compliant.”
I couldn’t remember what they said next.
I tried to lift my hand and touched the raised wound on my chest, and a bulging wound

Charles had removed my liver while I was unconscious and given it to Selena.
My hand fell weakly, and a tear slid down from the corner of my eye.
