Chapter 9
With my heartbeats ringing loudly in my ears, I rushed back to Xavier’s ward where I noticed him staring at the wall with a sober look on his face.
“You know, I’m not usually like this Stella,” he started, before turning to look at me. “I never wanted things to be like this.”
I shook my head. “No, Xavier. You are exactly like this! If you hadn’t belittled me so much in front of Quinn, then she would have never tried to talk back at me in the way she did. I’m so tired of you shifting the blame on everyone else all the time. Learn to take responsibility for once!”
“Stella, please stop. How many times do I have to tell you that I realize that I was wrong and that I’m sorry? I’m deeply sorry.”
“No amount of sorry can ever fix anything. Also, I didn’t come here to fix things or provide you with any sympathy or special care. I came here to see how the moon goddess decided to dish out karma to you guys and from the looks of it she’s doing a pretty good job!”
For the first time in a long time, I saw Xavier’s eyes hold water and his lips fall into a deep frown. It was the look of a man who knew that he had lost everything good he had going for him.
“Stella, I called you here to make Xavier feel better and not to ruin things even more. If I had known that you would act like this then maybe I wouldn’t even have called you,” I heard a familiar baritone voice say and the hairs on my neck stood.
Slowly, I turned to find Jake standing by the door with a scowl accompanied by Quinn whose head had now been bandaged.
Jake was good at pretending I’d have to give him that.
Having an inkling as to where this conversation was, I stylishly brought out my phone and hit the record button.
“You sure have a lot to say for a backstabber and all–round traitor,” I started, watching closely to see his reaction.
Jake’s eyes narrowed into slits and he scoffed. “I really thought that

you could help us out here Stella, but I guess I was wrong,” he droned on, denying my question.
“You planned the attack on Xavier, didn’t you? And now you are planning another one for his brother so that you can finally become the alpha of this pack. You and Alpha Finn of the Crescent pack have been working together, haven’t you?” I accused, directly aiming for the bullseye.
Jake pretended to be shocked and averted his gaze to Xavier. At that moment, I caught Quinn‘ s reaction and it screamed guilt loud and clear. It was then that all the puzzle pieces in my head finally started to
connect.
“I finally understand it now. You sent Quinn to Xavier to distract him and get him in this sorry state before landing the final attack that cost him his leg. Quinn was the first phase of the plan, wasn’t she?” I continued, eyeing the both of them closely.
Jake began muttering excuses, but it was Quinn who finally pulled him under the rug.
“Fine. I did it. We did it, but I only agreed because I love Jake and he told me that things would be so much easier between us if he were Alpha. I never meant to ruin your relationship,” Quinn explained in a shaky voice.
While I appreciated her honesty, Jake did not seem to have the same feeling. He clenched and unclenched his fists by his side and released a low growl.
“I knew that I should have never teamed up with someone as stupid as you. The only reason I picked you was because I knew that you were shameless to sleep with anyone,” he spat at Quinn before redirecting his gaze back to Xavier and me. “Fine, I planned all of it, but what can you do about it? Xavier is practically the most useless alpha in history at this point and no one will believe a Luna that ran away from home, so do your worst!”
With a smile plastered on my face, I shrugged. “I will. I have a recording of you talking to one of Alpha Finn’s allies as well as a recording of this conversation so I’m pretty sure that the elders will

believe me.”
I turned to face Quinn. “You married a monster.

Tears were streaming down from Quinn‘ s face at this point. “I loved you, Jake. I loved you with everything.”
“No, you were just stupid.”
That had to be the last straw for Quinn because, without warning, she lunged at Jake in her wolf form and attacked him. Jake transformed into his wolf form as well as a form of defense.
The two both ended up attacking each other until Quinn’s wolf ended up pushing Jake’s wolf out the window, leading to them both falling off one of the top floors of the high building.
In the end, the whole mess left everyone bitter and broken.
Satisfied with the karma the moon goddess dished out, I packed my things, ready to leave once again, but Xavier‘ s voice stopped me. “Stella, is there any chance of us fixing things… in the future?”
Reluctantly, I turned to face him. “I don’t think so. Goodbye, Xavier.”
That was the last I heard from my ex–mate.
I spent the next few years of my life building a name for myself as one of the best healers in my new pack, the Nightshade pack, where the moon goddess gave me a second chance at happiness.
