she uned at the sound of Alex’s voice, still reeling from the shock of this new discovery Scott kept asking what was going on, boking so out of place Alex was walking towards them with his hands stretched out in front of him like he was ready to catch her if she suddenly decided to run. Her phone rang in her purse as Alex reached them, and she fished out the phone. Jooking domen at it in annoyance She did a double take as she saw the name flashing across her screen. It was her father fr way very weird that he was calling her. And she was still hurt by the way he had treated her. She contemplated not answering the phone but then what if something was wrong? Her heart thudded dangerously in her chest as a thought crossed her mind. What if something had happened to her mother and they were unable to reach her so they called her father instead? She clicked on answer and pressed the phone against her ear
“Dad!” She called urgently, “did something happen? Is mom okay?”
“What’ Ruby, listen, 1 don’t want you to feel bad about what happened at the house. you won’t be able to fully understand how hard things are for us financially. I know you must be feeling like I don’t care about you, but you know we have to set our priorities in order. I know I rushed out earlier but I thought I should call and tell you again…”
Ruby face palmed herself, shocked at the audacity of her father. Was he being serious right now? The hurt she felt from hi blatant disregard for her and her mother was still fresh, and here he was calling to justify his actions, to make himself feel better about what he had done. She wanted nothing more than to give him a piece of her mind, but she knew that if she started, it wouldn’t end anytime soon, and she would definitely start yelling at him, which was something she didn’t want to do in front of Scott and Alex. Plus she wanted to be level headed and think rationally when she finally gave him just what he deserved
And right now, Alex was standing in front of her, and she needed to hear why he thought that it was a good idea to deceive her
Pinching the bridge of her nose, she spoke into the phone, cutting her father off. “Dad?”
He kept rambling on, so she yelled into the phone. “Dad! I can’t do this right now, maybe we can talk later.”
“But he tried to protest.
“Dad please.” She said in a steely monotone voice.
He murmured an “okay” and she took the phone away from her ear, directing her unmoving gaze on Alex
“Ruby.” Alex started.
“What’s going on Alex? Why are we here? Whose house is this?” She asked tiredly
“I was going to tell you.”
“Tell me what? That you’ve been lying to the entire world? And to me?”

Ruby scoffed “***k the entire world. You lied to me.”
“I don’t owe you the truth Ruby. I don’t owe you a single thing!” He yelled
“We got married.” she breathed.
“Oh come on Ruby, we both know that was just a business deal satisfy

“The least you could’ve done was be honest with me. I deserved that much at least. And what was that

“What place” Scott asked, looking back and forth between the both of them with creased eyebrows.
“Some f***g broken down apartment with rats running around. She answered angrily.
“What?” Scott gasped.
Ruby ducted her attention back on Alex. “And lying to your family about it? What was the point of all that?”
You wouldn’t understand Ruby?”
“Why”

“Because you still see me as that little girl that couldn’t understand anything?” Ruby spat, interrupting him.
“I didn’t say that. What the hell?”

“He is. He owns Tidal Tech Scott added in the background.
Her eyes widened for the thousandil time that afternoon. Tidal tech had taken the business world by storm over the past couple of years. News article after news article had been written about them. Everyone coveted Tidal tech. It was said to have even added significantly to the country’s economy. But the most fascinating thing was that the CEO remained anonymous. It created an extra thrill for people. Everyone wanted to know who owned it. And now she knew. It was her husband. It was Alex Blackwood
“My father cut me off and disowned me. But you really didn’t expect me to relax and let him win, did you? Not after everything that he did to us. Of course I built my way up to the top. It wasn’t easy but I f*****She stared at his face as he spoke. She could see the rage and fury in his eyes, she could see the **pain he felt. She had D adea what had happened between Alex and his father, but whatever it was had hurt him really deep. And now she was starting to feel bad for getting mad at him. He clearly had his reasons for making the decisions that he made.
“Why keep it a secret then?” She asked him, now in a much cooler tone.
He hesistated. And she glanced over at Scott who raised both hails in surrender as if to say that he didn’t want to be included in their argument
“Alex” She called out to him.
“Ruby, that doesn’t matter. At least not right now. You’ll know everything when the time is right. But for now, and try to relax. Mun must be worried sick too, she’s been watching us from her bedroom window.””

Ruby looked up to the window that Alex pointed to, and true to his words, there she was. Her mother’s best friend, Tina. Blackwood Looking as beautiful as ever.
She turned back to the men in front of her and sighed, nodding in resignation. “Okay.”

“What’s wrong?” Alex asked, frowning slightly.
She turned the screen of the phone toward him and watched as his and Scott’s eyes widened too. Her father was still on the phone, she had forgotten to end the call and he hadn’t too for whatever reason. And that meant that he had just heard their entire conversation. The call ended with a beep, like he must have figured out that they were on to him now.
“F****k!” Alex swore, kicking at a stone on the pavement.
“Uh oh, this is bad, this is really bad.” Scott murmured.
“I’m so sorry…” Ruby apologized, feeling her chest tighten.
“Okay okay. This is nobody’s fault. Let’s just get inside before mom comes down here. We’ll figure it out inside.” Scott
ordered.
She followed the Blackwood brothers inside, into her new home, feeling like she had just had an out of body experience.
