ALEX
He sat back and watched from afar as Ruby walked into the bar he had asked her to meet him at She was clad in a red dress that looked absolutely sexy on her and hugged her in all the right places yet still looked perfectly appropriate. She smiled at him, and his eyes fell down to her lips that were painted a deep shade of red. He had told Ruby to meet him there so they could keep up the public appearances and keep the rumor mill interested- only this time, the rumors wouldn’t be about whether his wife was a gold digger or not, it would only be about how good they both looked together.
They had been married for a little over a month now, and they had settled well into a routine. Admittedly, at first, he had worried that she would be needy. That she would disregard the promises she had made to him and the rules they had both, set in place, but that hadn’t been the case. She had kept out of his way like she said she would, and she was also a good daughter in law to his mother. But she was an even more perfect wife to him.
Ruby walked up to him, and he took into account that he wasn’t the only one that noticed her. He watched as the eyes of every single man sitting in the bar followed her, even those who had women sitting in front of them. But Ruby didn’t even notice them. It was one of the things he had come to like about her. Most of the women that he knew reveled in the attention, they wanted to be in the spotlight at all times. But not Ruby. She didn’t pay them any mind, she was looking straight at him alone. He rose to his feet as she reached the table, and his arms wrapped around her as soon as she was within reach. He pulled her to him, taking sick pleasure in the fact that every man in the room was jealous of him. His lips found hers, which startled her. But she melted against him in a second, and her own arms found their way around his neck. He didn’t pull away until she was breathless, until they had given the whole room a show, until her red lipstick smeared.
He smirked at her loving the flustered expression she had on her face. He loved making her blush. It had become one of his favorite pastimes
“Hi,” she said, sounding a little breathless.
“Hi.” He whispered back.
Her lips tipped up in a smile and he stared at the light in her eyes as she brought her thumb to his lips, wiping away at the lipstick that she had undoubtedly left on him from their kiss. “Red is totally your colour.” She breathed in that seductive voice of hers. He doubted she knew what she was doing to him with that tone
“It is,” he smiled at her teasing tone, “you should consider leaving it on the rest of my body too.”
He watched in satisfaction as his words made her lips redden, and he chuckled as he finally pulled away from her. Ruby took a seat, tensing when she realized that all eyes in the room were on them.
“This is the best place to create some rumors about us. It’s the place to see and be seen. That kiss was the perfect sian.” He informed her, hoping it would ease some of her nerves, but it only did the opposite.
She nodded, her cheeks still tinged red as he pulled his chair closer to her. “It won’t take long for people to start gossiping.”
Ruby ordered a mojito and Alex leaned back with a whiskey in hand, observing her. “You look nervous.” He said when he saw the way she twisted her fingers around each other, and the controlled rise and fall of her chest as she breathed,
She looked up at him and shook her head. “No. 1, maybe a little? It’s been a long time since I moved in these circles” She confessed.
He leaned in and took her chin between his thumb and index finger. “You can’t show these people that you’re nervous, you’ll need to act natural. You’re a Blackwood now, Ruby. And Blackwoods aren’t timid. I need confidence, und control, borderline arrogance in fact, Right–now Ruby, you’re not merely a wife. You’re my equal, the only person in the room who has rights and access to me
His words did nothing to make the situation any better though, they only made her even more nervous. He smiled at her as he leaned in. “Kiss me,” he ordered

Chapter 21
She hesitated, but then she threaded her hands through his hair, pulling him closer to her. Her lips found his and her hand cupped the side of his face. She kissed him slowly and deeply, taking full control. And he couldn’t help but wonder what her hps would feel like wrapped around his length. And by the time she pulled away from him, he was rock hard.
Ruby smiled knowingly when she pulled away, and he shook his head. He grabbed her hand and placed it over his bulge. enjoying the way that her eyes widened in response. “I told you to kiss me, Ruby, not tongue fuck me.”
She smiled shyly and opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, she was cut off by some guy walking to
their table
“Ruby.” He called out breathlessly as he reached the table.
Alex watched in confusion as a mix of emotions took over Ruby’s face.
“What do you think you’re doing, Ethan?” She asked through gritted teeth, looking between the guy and Alex.
“Who are you?” Alex asked, deciding that he wouldn’t be left in the dark.
Ruby sighed, casting a discreet look around the restaurant, and of course, people were staring at them and watching the whole exchange. “He’s Ethan, my ex boyfriend who cheated on me with my sister right in front of my eyes.” She said.
Alex felt his anger rising as the words left her mouth. He didn’t miss the look of pain in her eyes. She was hurt, he could see it. And that only made him want to knock the lights out of Ethan. But they were in public, and he couldn’t resort to violence. It didn’t mean that he was completely ruling it out though, he would do it if this Ethan guy didn’t walk away in a heartbeat. “And what are you doing here?” He directed the question at Ethan, who only ignored him and faced Ruby.
Ruby, he’s deceiving you. Can’t you see it? You can’t possibly think that he loves you, not like I do. We spent three years together, you can’t just throw that away
“You mean like you threw it away when you had your tongue down Melanie’s throat?” Ruby fired hack, much to Alex’s satisfaction.
She was a little firecracker, and he was glad that she had taken his lesson to heart and wasn’t letting anyone walk over her

“Please leave,” she said to the guy, blinking profusely.

Alex stood up then, he had had enough of the bullshit. He took a few steps until he was directly in front of Ethan, mere inches from him. Alex was a tall guy, with his broad chest and shoulders, and next to him, Ethan looked relatively smaller, with his face barely reaching Alex’s chin, “You heard my wife. Leave Alex ordered in that low menacing voice of his “And the next time I see you anywhere near her, or even hear you utter her name, best believe you won’t live to tell the tale.”
They had a stare down, and just as he expected, Ethan blinked, giving up. He cast one more quick glance at Ruby before he scurried away. Alex sat back in his seat, observing his wife. “Are you okay!”
“Yeah,”
she answered, giving him a small smile.
He knew that she wasn’t though. He could see it in the way that she was still trying hard to blink back tears. He could understand why she was hurt and why she felt the way that she did. But what he couldn’t understand was why an unfamiliar feeling of jealousy erupted in him. Jealousy that bordered on anger. What he would give to have Ethan’s head on a platter in
front of him
