Growing up, Kylie had a strict rule from Felicia: the skills she learned from Felicia were for keeps, not for cash, at least not until she was married. That included the stuff she picked up from the books at Felicia’s–all off–limits for making money.
And if she ever blabbed about their secret studies to anyone, including her adoptive mom, Amanda, Felicia warned, it could bring nothing but trouble.
In a past that didn’t go down well, Craig’s mom Jasmine needed a kidney transplant, which was going to hit them with a huge bill of about 300 thousand dollars.
Kylie couldn’t handle seeing Craig so stressed, so she did a behind–the–scenes art restoration job at the price of 300 thousand dollars.
A couple of days after that, while shopping with Julie, a truck went rogue and headed straight for them. Kylie didn’t think twice; she pushed Julie out of the way. That was when her life took a sharp turn–she ended up paralyzed from the chest down.
But in this life, those events were just bad memories that hadn’t happened yet.
In her last life, Kylie never got to see Felicia again before she passed. Holding Felicia’s letter now, with its familiar handwriting. was too much. Kylie couldn’t hold back the tears; they just fell, splashing onto the letter.
The letter revealed that Felicia had one last chance to divine the future, and she’d bequeathed it to Kylie. The reading was stark: a looming crisis that could have been fatal, or at the very least, it hinted that Kylie might not surpass three more years.
But since Kylie was reading the letter, it meant that she had avoided the catastrophe Felicia had foreseen. Her future was no longer limited; she was now free to explore whatever path she chose.
Felicia’s letter ended with a gentle note that they’d meet again if fate allowed, but not to force it.
Kylie remembered that she had wanted to learn how to read fortunes from Felicia when she was young, but Felicia always said it was better not to look too far into the future.
Although Kylie hadn’t inherited Felicia’s ability to predict life’s twists and turns, she had a sixth sense of the vibes of ancient artifacts.

“Oh, honey, what’s up? Why are you crying?” Noreen’s heartstrings tugged; she’d never been one to cry easily, but seeing her this way was plain upsetting.

With Kylie momentarily out for the restroom, it hit Noreen and she seized the chance to call Trevor, “You didn’t upset Kylie at the city hall, did you?”
Trevor, just packing up after a marathon day at Walters Group, was taken aback by the call “Grandma? What did she say about me? Why would you think that?”
“Kylie’s quiet, but I can read between the lines, Noreen said pointedly. “I know when something’s eating at her.
“I didn’t do a thing. Trevor defended himself, his hand massaging his temple as he headed for the elevator.
Trevor’s mind raced. A fleeting glint of suspicion crossed his eyes. “What’s Kylie after, exactly? I thought she’d stick to the terms of the agreement since we’ve signed the contract, but now it seems she has other plans.
“See that you didn’t.” Noreen admonished. “And you’re coming to get her tonight. Don’t forget what I told you–make me a great–grandma soon.”
Trevor just rolled his eyes, the familiar burden of his grandmother’s expectations settling on his shoulders.
The elevator doors closed, leaving just him and Zach inside. Zach had been off in his own world ever since they’d returned from the Walters residence.
Trevor couldn’t help but notice, “What’s with you?” he asked, a hint of concern in his voice.

Chapter 5
Zach’s face twisted into a grimace as he fingered the pearl pendant around his neck. “I can’t get what Kylie said out of my head. She made it seem like this thing is… I don’t know, haunted or something. It’s just an old piece, right? It can’t be cursed.”
Trevor’s brow arched, his expression cooling as he thought Kylie might be a fraud.
“Don’t let her get to you,” he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Zach nodded, the weight of worry lifting. “Sure, sir.”
Then Zach thought with a sigh of relief, ‘He’s the boss. If he says it’s nothing, I believe him. Good news, anyway. This pendant is a family treasure, meant to be passed down for generations.”
The elevator was dropping like a rock, but then it hit a rough patch around the twenty–something floors. The lights danced around before they steadied up again.
They brushed it off as a little hiccup, but then the thing started to plummet, way faster than it should’ve been.
Even Trevor, who was usually as chill as they come, looked a bit rattled.
‘Dude!‘ Zach cried to himself, his eyes bulging, “Not the way I saw my day going down, right?
The elevator plunged into darkness. Zach’s voice echoed, a mix of panic and disbelief. “Mr. Walters!”
“Hold it together. Trevor commanded, his voice steady despite the situation.

Zach, now huddled in a corner, looked up at Trevor, who stood unscathed, his gaze sharper than the situation warranted.
Zach then took the pearl pendant down and glanced at it, a strange sense of unease settling in. This is… off,” he muttered, pulling it off to examine it closer. “Ms. Lampard wasn’t just yanking my chain, was she?”
Trevor, not one to entertain such notions, looked to the ceiling. “Get the engineering team on this. They need to check every elevator, and make sure we’re not having a repeat performance tomorrow.”
“Sure, Zach replied, his voice still shaky.
Exiting the elevator, Zach, not quite back to his usual self, asked, “Mr. Walters, could you check with Ms. Lampard? I mean, about this pendant. Should I still be wearing it?
Trevor glanced at the pendant, its quality undeniable. “Keep it. It was just a glitch. He dismissed Zach’s words with a wave of his hand.
Zach nodded, determination in his eyes. “I’ll get on the fix.”
His mind raced. ‘It seems like the engineering team has their work cut out for them. They’ve given Mr. Walters a heart- stopping ride. Time for them to earn their keep and ensure every elevator was in perfect shape for the next day.
Trevor strolled into the Walters residence, surprised to see his grandma, who usually wasn’t too thrilled with him, all smiles with Kylie as they watched some reality dating show.
