Chapter 2
Without another thought, I rushed downstairs, got into my car, and sped to Tina’s place.
I knocked on the door for what felt like an eternity before she finally heard me.
When the door opened, I was hit with a wave of overpowering perfume.
Tina’s lips curled into a smirk the moment she
saw me.
“Oh, it’s Charlotte. Are you here for David? He’s still fixing the pipes for me, so he probably won’t be able to go home with you now.”
She flicked her hair back, a sly smile playing on

her lips.
“Sorry about that, but you know how much he always cares about us.”
I didn’t respond. I just stared at her, feeling the anger rise within me.
She was wearing a revealing, low–cut slip dress, and with the slightest tilt of her head, everything was on display.
And with the pipe having burst, the wet fabric clung to her body, leaving almost her entire figure exposed.
Whether intentional or not, she was always presenting herself like that in front of David.
Noticing my gaze, Tina let out a deliberately shy.

squeal.
“Ah!”
She covered her chest with her hands, acting as if I were the man here.
At the sound of her scream, David rushed out of the living room.
“What happened? Are you okay?”
Tina, her face flushed, hid behind David, wrapping her arms around herself without saying a word.
David turned to me, surprised. “Charlotte? Why are you here? Didn’t I tell you to wait for me at home?”

I forced a smile and looked at Tina.
“If I hadn’t come, I’d never have known this is how you two spend your time together.”
“Anyone who knows would think it’s about fixing pipes. Anyone who doesn’t might assume it’s a romantic date.”
Tina’s eyes filled with tears instantly, the waterworks beginning as if on cue.
“Charlotte, how could you say something so harsh? I’m in my own house–Isn’t it okay for me to dress like this in my own home?”
Hearing that, David stepped forward immediately.
“What are you talking about? I’m just helping

out. Charlotte, I get that you’re upset I left you behind, but her life isn’t easy. Can’t you be a bit more understanding?”
David gripped my hand tightly, his brows furrowing in frustration.
“There’s nothing inappropriate between us, Charlotte. Don’t make this harder on her.”
I yanked my hand out of his grasp.
Then, with a sharp “smack,” I slapped a business card against the door.
Turning to Tina, I raised my voice a few notches
on purpose.
“Tina, if your pipes burst, your fridge breaks, or you don’t know how to charge something again,

I suggest you call the number on that card. They’re professionals–my husband’s just an
amateur.”
“But if you’re afraid of thunderstorms, cockroaches, or spiders, stop calling my husband in the middle of the night. Call me instead. I’m not scared–I can handle anything. Including mistress
