Chapter 7-

Chapter 7
David’s hand froz on my abdomen.
“What did you say?” He looked up, his face filled
with shock.
I didn’t give him a chance to recover, pulling out another copy of the divorce agreement.
I signed it and placed it in front of him once again.
David, let’s end this peacefully. Don’t make things unpleasant, or I’ll take it to court. I can still get the divorce.”
Seeing how serious I was, David finally started to panic.

His hands trembled as he took the papers.
His voice cracked with a hint of hoarseness. “I didn’t know… I really didn’t know! Charlotte, please don’t do this. Don’t punish yourself with a divorce. I was wrong, I really was wrong. Just give me another chance.”
I said nothing, but the determination in my eyes hurt him deeply.
His eyes reddened as he slowly let go of me, unable to stop himself from muttering, “Why? Why won’t you even give me a chance to make it right?”
Suddenly, a strong wind howled outside, accompanied by thunder and lightning.

I glanced out the window and sighed bitterly, then spoke again.
“Make it right? Then let me ask you, if one day a storm like this suddenly hit, what would you
think of?”
“Of course, I’d want to come back and be with
you…”
“Liar!”
I cut him off coldly.
“In your heart, you’d be thinking about whether Tina would cry, if she’d be scared, not me.”
As if to prove my point, David’s phone suddenly rang in his pocket.

He glanced at it but didn’t have the courage to
answer.
I didn’t even need to guess who it was.
The ringtone echoed relentlessly through the living room, unyielding.
I finally reached my limit and, using every bit of strength I had, shoved David out the door and quickly locked it behind him.
“Get lost! Go comfort Tina! Once we’re divorced,
no one will stop you from being the good guy!”
David banged on the door loudly outside.
“Charlotte, listen to me! I swear, I have no feelings for her, you have to believe me!”

“It’s… it’s because Jenny had a fever, and Tina doesn’t know how to take care of her. I was just worried, that’s all Wait for me. Once I take care of things, we can get back to living our lives together.”
As I listened to his footsteps fade down the stairs, I knew I couldn’t wait any longer. I immediately called the moving company.
The next morning, as I packed up the last of my belongings, David finally came home.
He staggered past me, drunk.
It wasn’t until he noticed the last of my things packed by the door that his gaze became slightly more focused.
“Where are you going?”

I didn’t answer. David quickly blocked my way, fumbling for his hone in a panic.
“Look, Charlotte, I’ve deleted all her contact information. I even hired a nanny for her. She won’t be bothering us anymore, I promise. Please, don’t leave.”
In his haste, his collar slipped open, revealing two deep “hickey marks” on his collarbone, which was Tina’s doing.
In that moment, I felt relieved–thankful, even- that I had stayed clear–headed through it all.
I never believed the lies about men changing
their hearts.
I had the movers load my things into the trunk,

and without looking back, I left.
Even after I mov, David wouldn’t let go.
Every morning, he stood at my door, bringing me nutritious meals.
He said, “Even if you don’t forgive me, you should at least take care of your health.”
I stared at the delicious food, and for the first time, I realized that David knew how to cook.
But he didn’t learn for me, and this wasn’t the
first time he had cooked.
It was Tina’s favorite food. How could I possibly
like it?
I didn’t give David so much as a glance, yet he

kept making meals, undeterred.
He thought thes little gestures would win me back.
He even reported his daily plans to me, showing screenshots of blocking Tina to prove his determination.
With two months remaining until the divorce proceedings, I decided to let him do as he pleased.
But while I wasn’t yet tired of it, someone else was growing impatient.
Soon enough, Tina found me in my apartment building, cornering me in the hallway.
She smugly threw two “sexually explicit photos”

in front of me.
With a grin reve. ing her dimples, she taunted, “Charlotte, David and I have already slept together. How much longer are you going to delude yourself?”
