Holding her head high, unable to conceal her smugness, she declared, “How could I not know about retribution? I now have a lovely daughter, a loving husband, and I’m pregnant with another child. My future will only get brighter.”
“Charlotte, stop struggling. My marriage to David is already set in stone; nothing can tear us apart.”
“Is it entertaining for you to spread rumors outside? David’s family needs heirs, and you’ve been married to him for five years without having any children. Surely, David can’t be denied the chance to have descendants because of you, right? You two had already reached a consensus on divorce; why deceive everyone by using them as pawns in your game?”

Then she chimed in, “Exactly, Charlotte! I heard you two had long been discussing divorce. Your delay was merely to greedily grab more assets. Now that David has left with nothing and given. you everything, what else are you dissatisfied. with?”
They were putting on a show together, deliberately speaking loudly, drawing whispers among the guests.
