Chapter 2
“Kimberly, there’s still some work at the company. I might come home late,” Brian’s voice sounded tired.
Before, I would have felt so sorry for him.
But today, I just responded indifferently:
“Alright.”
Perhaps sensing something off in my tone, Brian hesitated before hanging up, asking,
“Kimberly, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell? You don’t sound like yourself.”
“It’s nothing. I’m just a bit tired,” I answered

calmly.
“Then rest well. Once this busy period is over, I’ll take you on a trip abroad,” he said before hanging up.
I threw the phone aside. After sitting in silence for a few moments, I let out a bitter laugh.
Brian had been in this busy state for quite some time, and I hadn’t even noticed anything strange.
I must really be… so oblivious.
I recalled when we first started our business after college. We were much busier back then.
There were only the two of us, managing operations, strategies, marketing…

We handled everything personally. We were so overwhelmed that we barely had time to eat or sleep, surviving on coffee.
Brian worked on planning, while I handled the market. Sometimes we wouldn’t see each other for an entire week.
But even during those hectic times, Brian never neglected me.
I would always receive countless messages from
him. thi
The takeout he ordered for me, the small gifts he prepared…
But now…

The company had grown from our two–person team to an enterprise of over 500 employees.
And Brian had stopped doing those things long ago.
He even forgot our nine–year anniversary last month.
Though perhaps he hadn’t forgotten–he was likely too busy spending time with Patricia.
I knew her.
She wasn’t just Brian’s secretary; she was went to the same university with us, five years younger.
Back when we returned to campus for recruitment, Brian found her too lively and

didn’t want to hire her.
But I insisted, and she ended up joining our company.
Now… Brian certainly has no complaints–he’s even made Patricia a part of his life.
I sat there in a daze.
Time passed, and I made a decision.
I no longer wanted Brian
&

So, I acted.

agreement drafted.
Other than the prize money I earned from dance competitions over the years, I left everything else to Brian.
I didn’t have long to live, after all–I wouldn’t need much money.
I have to admit, money does buy efficiency.
In less than an hour, the documents were sent
over.
I skimmed through them, satisfied with the agreement, and forwarded it to Brian’s email.
It had been an exhausting day.
I fell into a deep sleep.

The next morning, I woke up to the usual emptiness beside me.
By now, I was used to it.
Brian had long stopped coming home.
Back then, I thought it was for the sake of the company, for me, for our home.
But now… I wouldn’t indulge in those delusions any longer.
After a quick wash, I checked my phone–no missed calls or messages.
I shrugged, a bit exasperated.
Had Brian really become so busy he couldn’t

even check his email?
How laughable!
A man who practically lived at the company didn’t have time to check his inbox?
I must have been so blind not to realize anything sooner!
I let out a cold chuckle.
No matter.
If Brian didn’t have time, I did!
I’d deliver the papers myself!.
I grabbed the printed divorce agreement and
headed to Brian’s office.
