Despite his mother’s rude behavior, I had been
with Billy for two years. I wanted to hear his side of the story. When I tried calling him, he blocked me. Just like that!
After the breakup, I spent three days sulking at home until my best friend, Sarah, showed up and knocked some sense into me.
Spurred into action, I went to the biggest mall
in town with Sarah, riding in my fancy car.
As soon as we walked into a high–end

boutique, Sarah nudged me. “Isn’t that your ex?”
I glanced in the direction she pointed and saw Billy on a couch a short distance away, chatting with a pretty woman. They were all touchy- feely, clearly deep in the honeymoon phase.
Three days after the breakup, Billy was already
on a date with another woman.
Sarah’s voice was loud enough that Billy and
the woman both looked our way.
Billy marched over, his face dark. “Lucy, we’re done. Why are you stalking me here? You’re such a desperate case.”
I was so mad I laughed. “It’s incredible how thick your skin has become.”
Billy looked at me like I was lying. When he talked to me, his nostrils flared like a bull.

My dad has always believed in quietly growing
his wealth. He specifically told me never to mention our money while dating. As a result, Billy always thought we were broke.
I saw the smug look on the woman’s face, and I suddenly understood why Billy was acting like such a jerk. He was trying to impress his new girl.
What a douchebag.
When I didn’t answer, Billy turned to a sales assistant and said, pointing at me, “This woman
can’t afford anything here, so keep an eye on her. She might steal something.”
The assistant sized me up and scowled.
Before she could say anything, the store

manager hurried over with Sarah. He had a big smile, “Ms. Lane, why didn’t you let me know you were coming? You’re a VIP member; we have your private room upstairs. Please come with me.”
I glanced at my ex and his new girl. They were stunned.
With them watching, I walked into my VIP room in my flip–flops, feeling like a boss.
I was finally free to buy whatever I wanted. My old habit of hiding my designer clothes in the closet to match my “poor” boyfriend was over!
After shopping, Sarah had to leave, so I decided to take a cab home. As soon as I got to the taxi stand, Billy appeared out of nowhere, blocking my path.
I frowned. “Move it, you’re being annoying.”
