Mom, Dad, and Luke suddenly looked agitated.
Luke seemed to be in disbelief.
“Mom, did you hear someone laughing? It almost sounds like Isla’s laugh…”
Mom nodded quickly, completely ignoring the blood she smeared onto
Dad’s suit.
“I heard it too.”
“Oh? Can they see me now?”
Curious, I floated in front of them and waved cheerfully.
Then I watched as the three of them broke down sobbing in front of me, all dignity gone.
“Isla!”
I didn’t say anything. I just crossed my arms and quietly watched their little performance.
Mom’s eyes were red, filled with regret and guilt.
“Isla, it’s my fault. I was wrong. I treated you so badly before, and you have every right to blame me.”
There was a time when I longed for that look of love from her. Now, I don’t need it anymore.
“Isla, could you call me ‘Mom‘ again?”
Mom looked at me hopefully, just like all those times I used to call out to her, and she pretended not to hear.
I did the same now, pretending not to hear her.
Dad, looking emotional, opened his mouth, then simply said, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have hit you that day. I was too rough. It must’ve hurt, right?”
I looked at him like he was a fool.
I was knocked to the ground. My face was swollen, and my lips were

bleeding. How could it not have hurt?
I floated over to Luke.
He stared at me without blinking.
“Isla, I didn’t betray you. Grace wanted to be my wife, but I rejected her. You’re the only one I ever wanted to marry.”
I was stunned by his shamelessness and couldn’t help but snap at him.
“Luke, do you believe your lies? You claim to love me, but you still slept with Grace!
“You promised to marry me. In the end, you gave that up for your title as the heir to the Harris family!
“Stop flattering yourself and don’t you dare use me as an excuse. You disgust me!”
Ah, after cursing him out, I felt a strange sense of relief in my ghostly form.
The sound of sirens drew closer, and I watched them with amusement as I offered a friendly reminder.
“The cops are almost here. If you’re planning to run, you better hurry.”
Nobody said a word. They just stood there, staring at me, dumbfounded.
I felt my body becoming lighter.
Through Luke’s terrified gaze, I saw myself becoming more and more transparent.
It seemed my time had come. I had to go..
“Life is hard. If there’s a next life, I’d like to try again. As for you all, well, this is goodbye.”
With that parting wish, Ivanished from their sight.
Their story lingered in the police station for a long time afterward.
It was said that the man sentenced to death for forcing organ

donations and desecrating a corpse, and the couple sentenced for killing their own daughter at her wedding, were strange.
When the police arrested them at the wedding, the three were still sobbing uncontrollably. Their faces twisted in agony.
They kept mumbling apologies to someone.
Apologizing to whom? Well, no one really knows.
The End.
