I banished the thought from my mind.
No more pointless fantasies.

Arthur seemed to be doing well, and that was all the information. I needed.
It was enough.
Soon enough, there would be other women around him. Maybe this woman in red, maybe Grace…but it wouldn’t be me.
I continued to perform with my teacher’s dance troupe. whenever I had the time.
Under the spotlight, I felt reborn.
I didn’t see Arthur again. Maybe he went back home. I wasn’t
sure.
As I got older, Elizabeth kindly started trying to set me up on dates.
Why was it that no matter where you go, people were so eager to play matchmaker?
After I turned down Elizabeth’s offers for the tenth time, she resorted to drastic measures. She tricked me into going to the

cinema but secretly switched my movie companion.
Looking at the blond, blue–eyed hunk in front of me, I sighed, “Let’s go.”
The movie we saw was quite a coincidence. It featured Grace.

Over the years, ever since she was with Arthur, her career had skyrocketed.
Now she was an international star, an actual movie queen.
She stood under the brightest spotlight, and I felt genuine. admiration.
It turned out that when I let go of jealousy, I could see that Grace was a remarkable woman.
It was just that before, I couldn’t help but compare myself to her, trying to prove that Arthur could have loved me.
Was it really because Arthur and I had been together for twelve years, and I had never been with another man, that I thought he was the one I would spend the rest of my life with?
My eyes drifted towards the man beside me. His name was Andrew Thorne, some rich kid, and he certainly looked the part, every move radiating a kind of charm.
Maybe… maybe it was time to meet someone new?
He caught me looking at him, a playful glint in his eyes.

spending the evening with you.”
His forwardness took me aback. I needed a moment to adjust.
“I got you some popcorn and a Coke. Anything else you’d like?”
I shook my head, thanked him, and took the snacks.
Time to make a move.
“How many girlfriends have you had?”
As soon as the words left my mouth, I realized how intrusive I sounded. My face flushed red.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to pry. You can just ignore that.”
He stared at me, seemingly mesmerized.
“You’re so beautiful when you blush, Miss. Of course, I can answer that. Just you.”
I wasn’t sure I believed him.
His words and actions made me feel like this was just a trick to deceive me.
I couldn’t quite bring myself to believe him.
We were just getting to know each other, and I shouldn’t jump

to conclusions about him so quickly.
The movie ended, and he walked me out.
He looked at me, seemingly shy.
“Ms. Birch, may I kiss you?”
I instinctively took a step back.
I thought, “Oh my god.
A kiss on the first date?
Wasn’t this too fast?
It’s better to refuse.”

“Sorry, I think this is too fast. I believe in taking things slowly…”
He shook his head. “You are too reserved. Only through passionate contact can feelings spark between two people. Why not give it a try with me?”
He was a large man, and I was powerless to resist as he approached me.
I frowned and raised my voice in refusal.
“Please don’t do this!”
He kept coming closer.
But in a foreign land, who would come to my rescue?
I bit my lower lip.
I felt incredibly nervous and a hint of fear.
“Come on! Ms. Birch!”
“Ah! ”
