Through her window, she looked at Richard, who was still standing in the same place and she cursed him as a fool in a low voice, but her heart had a warm current surging through it.
From that day onward, he began escorting her to and from work.
Their relationship grew closer with each passing moment, yet neither dared to take the first step to shatter the delicate boundary
between them.
That was until Richard‘ s mother, Cathy Ward, noticed her usually introverted son suddenly going out early and coming home

late, often grinning at his phone.
Though she was usually busy, she realized his
son was in love.
Richard did not deny it, he said, “I’m still pursuing her.”
Cathy teased him, “Well, well, the iron tree has finally bloomed”
Richard did not tell Wanda about his
conversation with his mother but invited her
to his home.
Though hesitant at first, she agreed.
Wanda was anxious because after so many years had passed, she could no longer remember what Cathy liked.
Richard reassured her, “She’s always liked

you. Whatever you bring, she‘ 11 love it.”
His words left her stunned.
In her seven years of marriage to Eric, she had been conditioned to fit everyone else‘ s expectations. Every gift had to be
meticulously selected and every action carefully measured.
Only then could she earn a perfunctory
“thoughtful” or “considerate.”
Yet, Richard told her that sincerity mattered more than perfection. In the end, she chose a pair of classic jade earrings.
Cathy adored them and wore them
immediately. Yet what thrilled her the most
was seeing Wanda again.

She had always hoped for a daughter, even buying tiny dresses in anticipation, only to give birth to a son. Yet the little dresses and clothes she had bought did not go to waste.
When Richard was still young, she dressed him up as a girl. However, when he got older, she could not fool him anymore.
“Wanda, you‘ re the same age as Jinxing, right?” she asked. “Are you seeing anyone or married? If not, why not consider my son? You two promised to be together forever when you were kids.”
This was because when Cathy was young, sh wanted to stay single. However, when her friends began to enjoy their grandchildren, she became one of the people who urged

Her straightforwardness caught Wanda completely off guard. She glanced at Richard, silently pleading for his help.
“Mom,” he interjected, “Wanda is the one I’m pursuing. Please, don‘ t scare her away.”
Hearing this, Cathy became even more enthusiastic. She piled the last chicken drumsticks into Wanda’s plate, as though afraid she wouldn’t eat enough.
When Wanda was about to go home, Cathy insisted Richard send her off in person.
Richard was embarrassed by his mother’s enthusiasm and didn’t know how to explain
to Wanda.

Fortunately, she did not mind. She even
appreciated her bold and candid nature.
Wanda couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy toward the man beside her. He had a loving and supportive parent. Growing up in such a family must be very happy.
Sensing her sadness, Richard gently took her cold hand in his. “If it makes you
uncomfortable, I won’t bring you meeting her again.”
“It’s not that,” Wanda said and took a dee breath, “It’s just… I suddenly felt a little jealous of you.”
Although she was a bit embarrassed, Wanda still spoke her deepest feelings to him.
After she spoke, Robert reached out and

pinched her face.
“There’s nothing to envy,” he said. “If you want, you can also call her mom.”
It was impossible not to understand what he meant but she was not ready to start a new relationship.
Richard noticed the change in his expression. Though his expression turned gloomy, he still
said what he wanted.
