Chapter 5
The whole scene had stopped dead.
The parents who had been holding me down
scrambled back, standing straight, staring.
Even Brayden’s mom pulled her foot back and
focused on the incoming cars.
I got up, helping my daughter.
A guy in a suit opened the door of the lead
car.
A guy in a tailored suit stepped out.
His clothes were expensive, and he just
radiated that “I’m better than you” vibe.
Brayden’s mom bounced forward and
grabbed his arm:
“Honey, what are you doing here?”
The other parents gasped:
“That’s Brad Sterling’s brother? He reeks of
money!”
“The Sterling family makes an entrance.”
“You can smell the Benjamins radiating from
him.”
I looked.
I froze.
It was Josh Miller, from the Boys and Girls
Club that my brother used to support.
Brad was always a softie. When he had free
time, he’d do charity work.
Josh was one of the kids.
After Brad passed, I wanted to honor him, so I
continued to support the charities he cared
about.
Josh got extra help. He was always
struggling.
I always helped him out.
He was always grateful.
Now, he was pretending to be my dead
brother and letting this woman use the
Sterling name to run wild.
Josh hadn’t noticed me. He smiled at
Brayden’s mom.
“You said you had some trouble at the
school?”
“I’m here to back you up.
Brayden’s mom blushed.

୮
“Really?”
“No matter what, you’ll have my back?”
Josh didn’t even hesitate.
“Of course. You and my boy are my world.”
“With the Sterling name behind you, you can
do whatever you want.”
Brayden’s mom beamed.
The other parents were jealous.
“She’s so lucky! An amazing husband!”
“He brought the motorcade just to back up
his wife. Where can I find a man like that?”
“That lowlife is in so much trouble. Brad
Sterling’s brother is ready to throw down!”
Brayden ran out of the crowd and grabbed
Josh:
“Dad!”
く
Josh picked him up:
“My boy got messed with?”
Brayden smirked:
“Some loser didn’t call me ‘Master Brayden.”
“I fixed her. She’s all bruised. I used a knife
on her too.”
Josh pinched Brayden’s cheek and smiled.
“That’s my boy! You stand up for yourself!” “If anyone fights back, you hit them harder.
Dad will take care of it.”
Brayden nodded. “Got it, Dad!”
“Good boy.”

Josh turned to Brayden’s mom.
“Who messed with my son?”
Brayden’s mom led him over to me and my
daughter.
“That’s them. That trashy mom and her brat!”
