She cried and said that she was a soulless

I looked at it all coldly.

Mikey insulted and beat up the nurse because
he didn’t like the way she took care of him.
The cops showed up.
Rick kept calling Janet.
She turned off her phone.
Janet got to the hospital.
Mikey charged over and beat her up.
“Mom doesn’t love me anymore. You ignored
me because I was sick. Did you go find Amy
again?”
“She’s an ungrateful freeloader. She said she
was your daughter. She’s so shameless! Let
her go if she wants to run away. She’s not
your responsibility. I’m your son! I’m going to
die! Why can’t you care about me!”
Janet didn’t say anything.
Mikey got madder.
He cried and beat himself up.
“Nobody wants me. I’m going to find a place

to jump. I’m going to die!”
I didn’t understand.
How could a boy be so dramatic?
“When are you going to stop? Do you
understand?”
Janet stared at him, her eyes stern.
“What am I acting for? Did Amy tell you that I
beat her up and shoved medication down her
throat? Don’t believe her! She’s a liar!”
“She’s dead. You saw it, right?”
“Mom, don’t joke around.”
I felt awkward looking at Mikey’s acting.
He was going to try to deny it.
Janet played the video.
“I’m too stupid. I believed everything you said.
I thought my son was the kindest boy in the
world. I didn’t believe it when the doctor told
me that you hadn’t been taking your medicine
and that the medication was probably fed to
someone else. I was wrong. You and your dad

are just alike. You’re both evil.”
Mikey cried.
He didn’t admit anything.
“I don’t know what other people told Mom. I
didn’t do anything!”
“Amy designed everything! She dared to hide
a camera! She’s the one who wanted to die. It
had nothing to do with me!”
Janet looked at Mikey in disbelief.
She looked at him sadly.
“Who taught you that?”
“It was you, Mom! I’m just doing what Mom
did!”
Mikey wasn’t afraid at all.
Janet narrowed her eyes and grabbed Mikey.
She grabbed his shoulders and held him still,
then raised her hand.
“Did you do anything wrong?”
“No!”
“Pow pow.”

A few loud slaps broke the silence.
Mikey looked at Janet in disbelief.
“Try to hit me again!”
Janet turned around, her eyes cold.
“The only person who could save you is dead.
Now you’re really going to die. Happy now?”
Mikey froze for a moment, then ran over and hugged Janet.
“Mom, I don’t want a nurse! I want Mom to
take care of me! Don’t leave me in the
hospital! I’m scared!”
Janet pushed him away and left without looking back.
She had never ignored Mikey like that before.
Was it because of me?
I sadly smiled.
I’m dead, so it doesn’t matter.
I followed Janet back home.
Rick was showing the house to a real estate
agent.

There were a lot of rumors about my death.
Some of the residents had moved out.
Rick was scared that I would haunt him, so he
wanted to sell the house quickly.
He asked the agent to set a really low price.
When Janet got back, she saw that Rick had
thrown my things around like trash.
She didn’t get mad.
She put her head down and picked up my
things.
When the agent was leaving, she blocked
them.
She said quietly, “Tell your coworkers that
they can sell our house if they’re not afraid of
dying. If anyone dares to put our house on
the market, I’ll kill them.”
No one wanted to sell the house because
someone had died in it.
The real estate agent was a friend of Rick’s.
The agent got scared and said she couldn’t

She ran away.
Rick’s face changed.
“What are you doing? You don’t get to tell me
what to do! This is my house!”
Janet said firmly, “We can get divorced. You
get nothing!”
“You’re crazy!”
Rick didn’t think Janet would yell at him.
He had always been able to control her.
Janet had always been okay when he made
jokes about Amy.
Rick softened his tone because of the video.
“You’re not the only one who’s lost someone.
I didn’t blame you for bringing a daughter into
our marriage. The Li family wouldn’t have let
you in if I knew you were bringing a
daughter.”
“Our son is in critical condition. If we get
divorced, my parents won’t give us money.

Things will be hard for us.”
Rick had used Mikey’s condition to get money
from his parents.
Rick’s parents had agreed to let Janet in the
family because Rick had been divorced four
times.
Rick’s parents knew that their son was a bad
person.
They just wanted him to have a son.
Janet had always wanted to be in a bad
marriage that other girls wouldn’t dream of.
She laughed.
“If you sell this house, I’ll die with you.”
The cold look scared Rick.
He couldn’t take it anymore and said, “If I
don’t teach you a lesson, you won’t know
who’s in charge.”
A scream rang out.
Janet was getting beaten instead of me.
Rick was selfish.

He beat Janet and took her money to spend.
After Rick left, Janet got up and cleaned the
room that I slept in.
“I’m so sorry, baby. I used to hit you, but now
I’m getting hit too. Have you forgiven me?”
She started picking fights with Rick every
day, saying that she had been with a lot of
men before she married Rick and that she
had cheated on Rick while she was pregnant
with Mikey.
It wasn’t true, but Rick believed it.
He hit her more and more.
She couldn’t get up after every beating, and
she smiled when she got hurt.
She always said, “Amy, do you see me
making up for what I did?”
I didn’t want her to get beaten.
Not because I cared about her, but because I
didn’t agree with that way of atoning.
