As Jean spoke, she had already pulled out her phone.
Dylan immediately moved to snatch it away, but Noelle said calmly, “No, that won’t be necessary.”
Her lack of reaction made Jean’s expression falter, while Dylan slowly turned to look at her.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have other matters to attend to”
Without waiting for a response, Noelle turned and walked away.

Noelle’s attitude made Jean feel like she was talking to a brick wall, causing an involuntary frown to appear on her forehead while her expression turned as dark as thunder.
Noelle had a point–it was a private matter between her and Hendrix, and it had nothing whatsoever to do with Jean.
But Jean just couldn’t stand seeing Noelle happy. The thought of someone who irritated her so much living a blissful life made her skin crawl. What made it worse was now Noelle had the protection of Hendrix.
If it weren’t for Hendrix, someone like Noelle wouldn’t even be worth Jean’s attention. She could have dealt with her with a snap of her fingers. But now, Noelle had become a thorn in her side–one that she couldn’t even pull out!
“Let’s go,” Dylan said again.
Jean, who had been glaring at Noelle’s retreating figure, finally looked away. Then, she turned to Dylan.
He kept his eyes downcast, his face expressionless.
Jean couldn’t help but laugh. “So, how does it feel?”
Dylan frowned, as if he didn’t understand what she meant.
“Look. She’s already moved on and is living happily with Hendrix. How does that make you feel? Oh, I remember now–when you were hospitalized after that fight with Hendrix, she didn’t even come to see you, did she?”
Dylan didn’t respond, but Jean noticed the way his lips tightened and his hands clenched at his sides.
His reaction only made her feel more bitter. As someone who loved him, she felt heartache, too. But not because she pitied Dylan. It was because the person who could stir such emotions in him wasn’t her.
Jean knew that if it weren’t for Brian’s help and if it weren’t for the trouble he was in at the time, he would have
never married her.
What would he have done instead? Waited for Noelle forever?
Honestly speaking, Jean would have had no problem believing Dylan was capable of doing that, and that knowledge only made her heartache worse.
But like a masochist, and despite the unmistakable ache in her chest, she pressed on, “So, the truth is, she’s already left you in the past. Yet here you are, clinging to her memory and pretending to be devoted. Just who are you trying to fool?”

Dylan didn’t answer her. Instead, he started walking ahead.
