Chapter 10
To most outsiders, Noelle seemed like a rigid and boring person. Most of the time, it was rare to see any emotional fluctuation from her. But now, she was like a comered wild animal, shedding her usual gentle demeanor and baring her claws.
However, this small display of resistance was nothing to Hendrix. He didn’t even bother responding to her. Instead, he lifted her from the bed and began to dress her himself.
Noelle tried to push him away, but the difference in their strength was too great. In the end, he dragged her downstairs without much issue.
“Mr. and Mrs. Freeman…” Mabel, who was already downstairs, paused in surprise when she saw the tug–of–war between them.
Upon seeing her, Noelle quickly composed herself and stopped struggling. Then, she followed Hendrix out the door.
Once they had driven for a while, Noelle gradually calmed down.
After taking a deep breath, she turned to Hendrix and said, “There’s no need for us to go to the hospital. I’ll explain everything to Mom myself. I know you’re busy with work, so you don’t have to take me back. Just drop me off somewhere that is convenient for you.
Silence ensued after her words.
With just the two of them in the car, there was no way Hendrix could have missed what she said. Nevertheless, he didn’t respond at all. He drove at a consistent speed, showing no signs of slowing down.
After more than two years of marriage, Noelle had come to understand Hendrix to some extent. His current attitude made one thing clear–he wasn’t having a discussion with her. Instead, it was a command.
He knew perfectly well why she was so opposed to getting pregnant and why every mention of having a child caused her mood to shift. Yet, that didn’t matter to him..
Why? The reason was that he simply didn’t care.
To him, marriage and having children were just natural steps in life. As his wife, Noelle was expected to fulfill that duty.
There had been a time when Noelle had held out hope despite knowing that Hendrix didn’t love her. She thought a child would be enough–with a child, she could have a family.
But even that simple wish was beyond her reach.
Beatrice was right. Over a year had passed since the incident. Everyone had moved on, and some had even forgotten about it. However, the same couldn’t be said for Noelle–she would never forget.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital. Noelle pushed her emotions aside and got out of the car calmly.
Hendrix had already arranged an appointment in advance, and it wasn’t long before they met with the doctor, Martin Sykes.
“Morning, Mr. and Mrs. Freeman,” Martin greeted them, his tone polite but not overly obsequious.
Hendrix gave a slight nod and looked at Noelle. However, she didn’t acknowledge him as she sat down.
Martin took her pulse. Before long, he frowned and asked, Mrs. Freeman, have you been pregnant before?”

“Yes.”
“How far along were you when the pregnancy was terminated?”
Noelle turned to look at Hendrix as Martin asked the question. Upon noticing her gaze, Hendrix pressed his lips together.
It was clear he had forgotten.
Noelle wasn’t surprised. She even managed a slight smile. Then, she turned back to Martin and answered, “82 days.”
“Hmm… It’s not too far along, but still, you aren’t in good shape health–wise. You’ll need proper care and nutrition. Have you been taking any medicine lately?”
“Yes. Birth control pills,” Noelle answered plainly.
