Hendrix did not call Noelle out. Instead, he walked over and loosened the tie a little.
Their cold fingers came into contact.
Noelle was accustomed to that, but Hendrix flinched, his finger recoiling a little. Soon, he acted as though nothing had happened and adjusted the tie.
“Didn’t you say you’d bring me for a prenatal checkup? When is that?” asked Noelle.
He slowly turned toward her. They stared at each other. This time, her eyes were calm and peaceful, devoid of the anger and resentment from yesterday.
He broke into a smile and replied, “Let’s do that another day. I’ve been busy these few days.”
“I could go to the hospital by myself-”
“No,” he cut her off. Bending over, he stared at her with piercing eyes. “Penny, you know I can’t set you free right
now.”
“How long are you going to keep me here?”
“Until you’re willing to stay.” While speaking, he gently placed a hand on her cheek. “I know you’re faking it now, but that’s okay. I won’t hold it against you!
“You don’t have to do that, though. You can never fool me with your little tricks. Got it?”
Noelle stopped speaking, but her tightly pursed lips started to tremble.
Hendrix seemed amused at her response. Smiling, he said, “Just stay here and have a good rest. Eat well. Got it? If you don’t, I’ll have the doctor visit daily to sedate you.
“As you know, the sedative is a drug–it’s not good for the baby. It might cause deformities.
“Don’t worry. Even if the baby is deformed, I’ll still make you give birth to it. And I’ll do my best to raise it for life. But as the mother, won’t you feel sorry for your child?”
Till now, Noelle regretted making that horrible remark yesterday in a fit of temper. Now, Hendrix had retaliated with equally cruel remarks. And his was way worse.
Each word felt like a stab to her heart. He hit where it hurt because he knew her too well.
She didn’t need to regret her actions.
She fell silent and looked away, unwilling to spare him one more look.
Hendrix didn’t care. After pulling his hand away, he turned round to leave the room.
Soon, one of the maids entered with food for Noelle. “Mrs. Freeman, do you want to eat something?”
She was prepared for Noelle to turn down the food, but to her surprise, Noelle agreed to eat.
Delighted, she served Noelle the food and said, “This is the right way. Mrs. Freeman, you shouldn’t be stubborn. Think of your baby! You and Mr. Freeman should get along happily as a married couple…”
Noelle merely shoved the food into her mouth without any expression.
After eating, she stared at the maid. “Can you lend me your phone? I need to make a call.”

“Don’t worry. Do you think I’m capable of doing anything in my current state? I’m just calling a friend to tell them.
I’m fine.”
After some hesitation, the maid finally offered her phone.
Noelle immediately dialed a Mondivera number.
