Book2Chapter 5
At the banquet two days later,
Alexander arrived at his grandfather’s birthday celebration with a stunning

by his side.
I smiled, though my gaze remained cold as I watched them from across the room.
“Hey, you look just like someone I know.”
Suddenly, a wealthy young man grabbed my hand.
“Emily Lane?”
I shook my head. “Sorry, sir, my name is Anna Shaw.”
He looked closer, realizing he had mistaken me for someone else.
But he called Alexander over, holding me up as a joke. “Alexander, come here!
Doesn’t she look just like Emily Lane?”
Alexander turned, frozen in place with shock.
The guy next to him nudged him,
“What’s wrong, cat got your tongue?”
“Although, now that I’m looking closer, she’s different. Emily would never dress

this.”
“I could say the same about you, sir,” I replied, my icy eyes locking on Alexander.
The young man perked up with interest. “You’re talking about Alexander? That’s
hilarious. Who does he remind you of?”
“My husband.”
As soon as I said it, Alexander’s expression shifted.
He shot me a warning glance.
“Whatever it is, we can discuss it in private. Don’t cause a scene here.”
He clearly still saw me as beneath him, someone he was embarrassed to
acknowledge in public.
The rich guy laughed, thinking I was just flirting with him.
“Haha, dreaming big, huh? You’re just a waitress, and you think you’ve got a shot
with Alexander? There are dozens of heiresses waiting in line for him.”
I smiled back, playing along. “Just a joke.”
“My husband’s been dead for ages. I’m just a widow now.
The rich guy laughed again, thinking I was still joking.
“You’re pretty funny. Let’s add each other on Instagram and hang out sometime.”
His eyes lingered on me.
I wasn’t exactly lacking in looks or charm.
Even before I got married, plenty of men pursued me.
This guy, no doubt, was used to playing games.
I didn’t refuse.
Alexander’s face turned dark as he grabbed the guy’s phone before he could scan
my
code.
