Book6Chapter4
He kept saying he didn’t know who to choose between Emily and me, but he had already proven with countless actions that he would always choose Emily.
On our wedding day, he chose to abandon me and go comfort Emily, who was arguing with her husband.
On our wedding anniversary, he chose to abandon me and go accompany Emily, who was afraid of thunder.
On my birthday, he went to celebrate Emily’s promotion and raise.
He would buy two copies of every gift for every holiday, one for me and one for Emily, maintaining this ridiculous fairness,
I complained to him many times, but he always said he wouldn’t do it again next time. Then next time he would make the same mistake again. If I talked too much, he would say I was being picky and petty.
Thinking about it carefully, the happiest time with him was the day he proposed.
There were many surprises that day. The proposal was at Starry City, which was over 13,000 feet above sea level, where the stars seemed within reach.
Finally, under the witness of the starry sky, he took out a sparkling ring and put it on my finger. His eyes were sincere and passionate, his vows were warm and affectionate.
That was the most serious he had ever been to me. It was a proposal he had prepared for a long time, a ceremony that belonged only to us.
Seeing that I didn’t reply, Ethan called directly, “Emily, I’ve booked a restaurant, let’s all apologize to you, stop making a fuss.”
I replied indifferently, “Is Emily Carter coming?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, pick me up tomorrow.”
If he wanted to apologize, how could he only apologize to me?
When Ethan came to pick me up, Emily was sitting in the passenger seat. She smiled apologetically at me, “Sorry, Claire, I get carsick, so I can only sit in the
front.”
I smiled back, “It’s okay.”
If it was the old me, I would definitely feel uncomfortable, but now I wouldn’t be angry no matter what outrageous things Ethan and Emily did.
The funny thing was, as long as it was Ethan’s car, the passenger seat had to be
hers.
But if she was in someone else’s car, she wouldn’t say she gets carsick and insist on sitting in the passenger seat.
At dinner time, Ethan’s buddies were all seated, except for the three of us.
Tom was the first to come over and greet me, pulling me to sit next to him, “Come on, Claire, sit next to me, I’ll apologize to you later.”
His tone didn’t sound apologetic, but rather threatening.
After everyone was seated, Tom first poured me a glass of wine, saying he wanted to punish himself with a drink. After drinking it all in one gulp, he began to apologize to me.
“Claire, I’m a straight talker, don’t take it personally, I really don’t think you’re worthy of my buddy, and I don’t think you’re as good as Emily. But what can I do,

my buddy still wants to be with you, so today I’m doing this for him.”
“I sincerely apologize to you.”
He said as he poured himself another glass of wine, and said to me, “I’ll punish myself with another drink. I really said the wrong thing that day, I’m sorry.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Ethan’s other buddies also apologized.
Seeing that the atmosphere had eased, Ethan quickly rounded things up and invited everyone to eat.
However, Emily raised a glass of juice, stood up, and said to me, “Claire, I’m sorry too. Ethan has such deep feelings for me, I’m sorry you’ve been wronged.”
Ethan hurriedly pulled her back, “You did nothing wrong, you don’t need to apologize.”
Then Ethan looked at me and said sincerely, “I’m sorry, I didn’t handle this relationship well.”
“It’s okay, there’s one more person who wants to hear you both apologize to him.”
As soon as I finished speaking, the door was suddenly pushed open, and a man in a suit walked in.
