Chapter 74
Leah
The big moment is here. I’m about to walk inside Caleb’s room for the first time after his operation, and I would be lying if I claimed I wasn’t close to passing out from sheer exhaustion. My bead has been working overtime thinking about every single possible outcome. I’ve been close to chewing my own nail because of nerves.
“Oh, Leah!”
I stop in my tracks and look up to see Dr. Novak walking through the narrow hospital corridor. It’s a trip to see her smiling face in Sweden.
“Dr. Novak, no offense, but what are you doing here?”
“Caleb paid me to come here,” she says as if that would explain everything. Then again, knowing my billionaire husband, he probably overpaid Dr. Novak to come here since she is the only doctor I feel comfortable with
“Ah, to check on the babies?”
trails off
“Yes, after you’re done talking to Caleb, I will pop up and kidnap you and your little ones for a short examination. I would also like to hear how you’re doing now that your future husband is suffering from amnesia-” She immediately when my face pales and grimaces. “Oh my god, you haven’t been inside his room yet, have you?”
N6, I whisper. “Is he..does he…?”
Dr. Novak gives me an apologetic smile. “I just came out of his room. I wanted to discuss some things regarding my payment with him, but he doesn’t remember me. The other doctors think it’s temporary…” She stops talking again when sh realizes I’m gaping up at her. It’s then she steps out of the way and gestures at Caleb’s door. “You should probably go and se him yourself.”
“Y–yeah…”
She taps my shoulder. “Best of luck.”
I walk inside Caleb’s hospital room without even mouthing a thanks to Dr. Novak, too stunned to say something back. All day, I’ve suffered nightmares about Caleb not remembering me and when I see him lying in his hospital bed, I realize just
- me. how much I need that “good luck” because he doesn’t look like a man who recognizes
But perhaps introductions aren’t needed, for Caleb’s lips twist into a hesitant smile as I approach. “And who might you be? he asks. “My assistant, perhaps?”
I stop dead in my tracks. He thinks I’m Janet?
Janet is Caleb’s new assistant, and we brought her to Sweden with us so that she could help Caleb get back to his role as CE as soon as possible. She is actually coming to the hospital soon. assumed Caleb would like a work update and pd, so I si her to get us pizza.
“No, I’m…” I stop myself from speaking. “Wait, do you remember your assistant?”
“Not at all,” Caleb laughs. “Sorry if that hurts your feelings. I don’t remember any people at all, but the doctors said it’s temporary. They also gave me a small list of important people that I’m meeting today.”
“A list?”

“Mhmm,” Caleb renches for the bedside table and picks up a clipboord to scan it with his eyes. “It says my father’s name is Harald Steele and that my mother’s name is Monica Steele. Then I have a fiancée named Leah, a doctor named Hailer Novak that I brought to Sweden for Leah’s sake! It doesn’t say why Anyway, the last person on the list is the name of my assistant, Janet–that’s you, right?”
At this point, do I even correct him? If his list doesn’t state that his fiancée–me–is pregnant, then he will probably never believe me if I tell him I’mn Leah.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself. It’s now or never. “Actually Caleb, I’m not Janet. I’mn Leah. Your fiancée.
To make it more believable, I hold up my hand to show him my expensive engagement ring. Caleh immediately pauses he studies it, and then his eyes slide down to my very pregnant belly. I can’t imagine how hard his brain must be working right now. It’s probably close to exploding.
“Fiancée? But… you’re pregnant. Really pregnant,” he says, stating the obvious. “The list didn’t mention that.”
“No, apparently, it left out that little detail,” I reply dryly. Of course the doctors wouldn’t think to include such a crucial piece. of information
Caleb looks utterly baffled, but before he can open his mouth to let me know what’s going on in his pretty head, Janet enters the room with a large pizza.
“Sorry, I’m late!” She exclaims the second she walks in through the door, sweaty and completely out of breath. “The Swedes have some really weird pizza choices, and it took me longer than expected to settle on one. I had to ask them for a recommendation and apparently, kebab pizza is the best. I picked the hot sauce option for us.”
Caleb’s mouth opens and closes. He looks like a speared fish before his confusion turns to realization. “Janet, I take it!” he asks before his eyes travel to mine. He is wearing a mysterious expression I can’t read
“Yup, that’s me,” Janet says. “Now, where should I place the pizza It’s huge!”
“Just put it down on the table over there,” Caleb says without even glancing at the table. His eyes are on me, and for some reason, it’s making me nervous.
“Good idea,” Janet replies happily. “Now, how do we split this? The pizza is massive and-
“Janet, could you please leave the room?” Caleb interrupts his blabbering assistant. Again, he doesn’t even glance her way. too absorbed by me. “Take half of the pizza with you. Rip off the roof of the box if you must.”
Janet looks taken aback at Caleb’s abrupt request but recovers quickly. “Of course, Mr. Steele. I will just…lemme just…umm….. I will grab my slices!”
She awkwardly rips the pizza box in half, scooping up several slices before hurrying out of the room

The second Janet is gone, I find myself wishing she had never left the liking. They rake me up and down plenty of times before he finally speaks up.
“So… you’re my fiancée.”
I grab the back of the chair that’s close to the pizza table and sit down on it. “Yup.”
Caleb’s eyes are still intensely focused on me, making my face heat up. “And you’re pregnant. With my child?”
I clear my throat. “Children, actually. It’s twins.”

His eyes widen, and he lets out a low whistle. “Wow. Okay, twin That’s a lot to take in.”
I nod, unsure of what else to say. An awkward silence falls between us until Caleb finally speaks again
“I’m sorry I don’t remember you, Leah. Or our relationship. This must be really hard for you, especially since we must have had a pretty bad light before the operation
“Huh?” I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. What the heck is he on about? “You think we fought before the operation?”
“Yes?” He blinks and gestures to where I’m sitting. “You’re sittings far away from the hospital bed as you could possibly get
of course, we must have had a fight. Why else would you treat me like I’m the plague?”
“Uh, because you don’t remember me?” Seriously, doesn’t he know how embarrassing it would be if I acted like normal and made him feel uncomfortable?
“Oh.” realization dawns on his face. At least, I think he finally get it, that is, until he opens his mouth, “You’re the shy type. aren’t you?”
Wait, what?!
“What? No!” I sputter, feeling my cheeks heat up even more. “I am not shy! I just…this is an awkward situation!”
Caleb chuckles, amused by my flustered state. “It’s okay, Leah. I won’t bite.”
I feel my cheeks flaming even hotter at Caleb’s teasing remark. How can he be so casual about this when he has no memory of me or our relationship?
“I know you won’t bite. I’m not afraid of you if that’s what you’re implying”
“Not afraid, huh? Then why don’t you come closer?”
1 find it strange how he manages to make my heart go wild with just one look. His bedroom eyes are simply too strong to resist and before I know what I’m doing. I’m dragging the chair over to his bed.
His blue eyes watch me intently as I approach, a small smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. It’s unnerving how he can still make my brain cells parachute their way out of my ears, even without his memories. I have no idea where to go from here and I’m too embarrassingly nervous to think of a subject to even start a conversation.
“Answer me something,” he says after a moment, “We don’t actually live in Sweden, do we?”
1 laugh. “Gods no, we only came here for your operation, but I must admit our flat is pretty impressive.”
His eyes widen, and then a smile curls his lips. “Ours?”
Shit! Is that weird? Saying that things are ours?
“Y–yeah,” I gulp. “You and I live together.”
“Oh,” he keeps the smile. “I didn’t know that.”
“Well, now you do,” I have no idea why this version of Caleb is making me more nervous than the one I knew. Probably because it feels like we are meeting for the first time. My brain is a mess, and that’s why I quickly add, “B–but don’t worry, we won’t share a bed and stuff.”
I nervously laugh and set my hair behind my ear, a movement Caleb watches closely. He is way too interested in me for my

liking, and his secretive smile is the worst. “Does the thought of aring a bed with me make you nervou
I nearly choke on my own spit at his flirtatious tone. How can he just come out and ask something like that so blondly? Ren without his memories, Caleb is as direct and shameless at
“N–no, of course not!” I stammer, not meeting his intense gaze since I’m afraid he would be able to tell I’m lying, which i am. I’m fucking Pinocchio right now.
Caleb arches an eyebrow, clearly not buying my denial for ever second. “Really? Because you seem pretty flustered to me.”
I feel my face heating up even more. Damn him and his ability to read me so easily!
“I’m not flustered,” I insist, though my voice comes out squeakier than I’d like. “I just…this is a weird situation, okay?
He chuckles softly. “Fair enough. I can’t imagine how strange this must be for you. His expression turns more serious as he studies me. “I’m sorry I can’t remember you, Leah. I wish I could”
The sincerity in his voice makes my heart clench. “It’s okay,” I say softly. “The doctors said it’s likely temporary, right
“That’s what they told me,” his smile widens, and my heart flip–flops inside of me.
The operation hasn’t changed how attractive I find him or how much I love him. Damn, I really hope his memories will return soon because I don’t think this Caleb would appreciate me hugging the shit out of him.
