Chapter 18
Eden’s POV
I walked into the meeting space, all their gaze directed to me.
A standing aviation to the ever busy brides best woman, who knows nothing about the wedding plans, I doubt if she knows the name of the groom. Inez made noise from where she was sitting.
Now that was sarcastic Inez ofcos I know the name of the groom.
“Hello everyone,” I waved at them.
“Hi Eden,” they chorused
“Sorry I’m late,” I apologize.
There was Vivien, our childhood friend from elementary school sitting right opposite to me after like twenty years of no see.
I have on several occasions asked about her from Inez and Ruby since her family packed out of our neighborhood,
Vivien and myself are of the same age but as children we were referred to as cat and rat.
“Vee! I called out with widely opened eyes and mouth.
“I thought you wouldn’t recognize me,” she said, spreading her arms for an embrace.
“What? Inez you didn’t mention to me that you’ve found out lost friend,” We all laughed.
“Wow! You don’t look bad,” I complimented
“You don’t look bad yourself,”
“Thank you, let’s leave the rest of the jist for the letter,” I said.
In the midst of the meeting I have replied to several of Hunter’s messages asking me silly and annoying questions.
He was the one who drove me to the meeting venue himself because today is Saturday. He asked his driver to take the day off.
“Eden I’m sure that’s Mr pestilence pesting your life even when today is a Saturday,”

Inez called out.
Ruby added “Why don’t he just become a bud and stick to your skin, seriously.”
“Hey guys, take it easy,” I expressed with my hands.
“How sure are we that he will let you attend the wedding,” Ruby stirred.
“I swear I will bury somebody alive,” Inez said with a scary smile on her face.
“Inez calm down cos I will be at the wedding nothing can stop that, I have an assistant too and the workload is lighter.”
“Even if not for that I wouldn’t miss your wedding for anything,” I reassured.
“You had better not,” she warned as we all stood up and headed out.
Hunter was waiting right outside the building.
Inez and Ruby looked at me suspiciously the moment they sighted Hunter’s.
“Is he your driver now? Or your guardian angel? That he follows you around the city of New York,” Inez muttered and w all laughed at her words.
“Goodbye Ruby my regards to Zane and C.C” I waved at her.
“Goodbye,” we all chorused.
“Vivien, I hope to see you around,” I said, walking towards the parking lot.
“Hello pumpkin,” a male voice called from my behind interrupting my walk.
“Hello, how can I help you?” I turned in response.
“He looks so familiar,“I think I have known him from somewhere.
“Eden O’Leary,” he called my complete name.
“Do I know?”
“Cambridge University, class of 2012,” he mentioned.
“Whoa! Henry Benson is that you?”
“Yes, it is me,”
“It is good to see you again,”

“How have you becu?”
We exchanged pleasantries and contact.
“It was nice meeting you again,” I said and headed into the car.
Hunter had given me like twenty missed calls while I was standing with Henry.
“Hi I’m sor…
“Who was that guy?” he asked, cutting words from my mouth.
“That was Henry Benson, a colleague during my university days, he just moved to New York for a contract,” I explained.
“Was that why you’ve ignored my calls?” He asked, his face turning red and tiny beads of sweat formed in his forehead.
“Hey, I didn’t see need to pick up the call since I was coming to meet you,”
“You left me sitting here while you speak and hug another man at my watch,” he sounded like a naive school boy.
I looked at in surprise as he talked.
“Is that jealousy?” pointing a finger to him.
He took his gaze away from me with no words and drove off.
It was four thirty pm when we got to the penthouse.
“You still haven’t answered my question,” still in the car.
He picked up his phone and stepped out of the car.
“I should just live since you don’t want to say a word to me,” I said as we walked into the house.
He turned around and moved closer to where I was standing.
His closeness stirred fear and attraction in me, I stepped back reacting to his strong
presence.
He reached out his right hand to my waist and dragged me closer to him, my head on his chest I could feel his heart beating fast.
My adrenaline came gushing down my body.

Chapter 18
We locked eyes, understanding each other’s silence.
He leaned and kissed me, I held him firmly kissing him in return.
His kiss was soft and juicy.
Miss Quinn walked into the penthouse and met us standing, it was a close one, she almost caught us kissing.
“Hey, hi, Miss Quinn.
“Hello, Eden,” she said, embracing Hunter.
“Hi handsome,” she whispered, raising her head to meet his gaze.
I stood there clouded with confusion of what to do.
“You look so tired and tense,” she said to him tapping his chest.
“Let’s go into the room and get you refreshed” she said to my hearing.
Seeing her on his chest made me feel like a betrayer, that I have snatched another woman’s man.
My heart began to pen down an apology note to her.
The memory of how comfortable I was while with him came intruding my remorseful side of being. Besides he doesn’t love her, the engagement was all his mother’s doing I thought.
The jealous part of me got stirred at every step taken away from the living room into the master bedroom.
It felt like I was standing in space with no earth beneath, as I watched them go.
Was he going to leave me standing there without a word? I questioned myself in confusion of what exactly was I expecting him to do?
I was the one who said to keep our relationship secret, I’m still the one expecting him to choose me over his fiance in her presence.
Which will stir up chaos that will consume both him and myself.
It might not consume him, cos he might still choose to marry her after all.
I shoved away all the disturbing thoughts coming to my head and walked my way to my house.
