Chapter 88
Alexis‘ POV
My heart raced continuously in my chest at the mention of Daniel’s name, how did he find out my little secret? I got lost in my thoughts seeking for answers but none seems to be coming.
“Huh… Are you there?” His hoarse voice penetrated through my ear down to my soul, waking me up to reality.
“Who….who is Daniel? And wh…what are you talking about?” I stammered despite my struggle to sound normal.
“Are you telling me that you don’t know what I’m talking about?” he sounded on top of his voice.
With that I knew that he was so sure of what he was saying but I still tried to play the smart game by denying.
“Of course I don’t,” I said hastily.
“Hold on for a sec,” he said.
I could not help but wonder why he asked me to wait, my heart beat intensified, thrice it normal rate as I cluelessly waited for his response.
The plan was for him to not know about Daniel, and after the marriage I will file for a divorce by then I will be entitled to half of what he has got, I never loved him, I liked him as a friend, until his Mom convinced me into agreeing to marry him for the sake of my family’s benefit to their company, i hesitated but Daniel made me see things differently.
“Check your phone I just sent you something, and for your information there’s more from where that come from,” his voice entangled with confidence and determination.
The moment I saw the photo, my heart skipped a beat and I went stiff at the spot, my stomach churned with anxiety and my body became sweaty, a knot formed in my knot.
I felt the ground beneath my foot rising up against me, I slowly leaned myself to the couch beside me still staring through, the window.
I struggled to say a word, or probably denied it but the words weren’t coming.
Trisha noticed how uneasy I was, she stood up from her seat and came closer to me gesturing with her hands.
“So we should meet and talk if you don’t want this to go wide,” he said, I trembled at the sound of his voice.
“I will let you think, let me know when you’re ready to talk,” he said with so much authority in his voice and hung the call.
I took a very strong hold of my phone, my heart was pounding so fast, his words still hanging and resounding in my head, tears streamed up in my eyes, I fought them from falling down my face, but I still failed and some still found their way out.
Trisha’s countenance changed the moment she saw tears falling off my eyes.
For a moment I thought of what Diana had said, I would have let things slide, it’s more like, I have dug myself a pit way deeper than I can survive it, because the consequences that will come with this act of mine will leave me a lifetime of
regrets.
My Dad is a no nonsense man, he is very strict and doesn’t take shit from anybody not even his children, he has cut my brother off his inheritance long before now.
I have been pampered just because I was an only girl and my Mom is the mastermind behind me being pampered, most of the things I do, it was backed by my mom, mostly without my dad’s knowledge.

To think that he has warned me severally to stay away from Daniel, according to him Daniel doesn’t seem like a responsible man and his spirit dislikes him,
At the spot I regretted ever starting all that, I would have accepted to back off when Hunter offered to take the whole blame for our break up, with that I will receive all the sympathy that comes with it not the insult and negativity.
My world came crashing right In my face..
“Alex, say something, what did he say? and why are you like this?” she asked, her voice mixed with concern and curiosity.
I regretted ever listening to Daniel’s advice.
“Trisha, I’m doomed,” I muttered,
“What do you mean?”
I quietly looked at her tears streaming down my cheek uncontrollably.
“Alex, say something, what happened?”
“Hunter had found out about Daniel?”
“What about Daniel?… Wait Alex!!, are you still seeing Daniel?”
I locked my gaze into hers with no words coming out of my mouth.
Oh my God!! She exclaimed, understanding the gravity of trouble I am in.
“I thought you said, you’re no longer together with Daniel and that you don’t have anything to do with?”
“I lied, Trish,” I said with a sober tone.
Trisha’s eyes widened in shock, her mouth spread wide too.
“Alex, how could you be so reckless? All this while you’re still seeing Danie, and you got the nerves to fight Eden when you know you have a cat in the bag”
She shook her head, disbelief etched on her face, “What were you thinking?”
I shrugged, feeling a mix of shame and defiance. “I wasn’t thinking, okay? I was just caught with Daniel plus I heed to his advice, I…I wasn’t just thinking straight,”
Trisha sighed, her expression softening. “Alex, you need to end this. You need to choose between Hunter and Daniel, once and for all.”
I nodded, knowing she was right. But a part of me was still torn. I didn’t want to give up on my feelings for Daniel, but I also didn’t want to lose Hunter for that commoner..
As I sat there, feeling trapped and unsure, my phone buzzed in my hand. I hesitated, then looked down to see a text from Hunter.
“Think, and while at that make it fast,” the text sounded harsh as I read it.
My heart sank, knowing that I couldn’t avoid this conversation any longer. I took a deep breath, preparing myself for what
was to come,
“What does he want?” Trisha asked with curiosity glaring all over her.
“Hunter, wants me to cancel the wedding,”

I looked at her in shock. What could she be expecting that I do? It seems like she still has not fully understood the gravity of what’s going on.
“No, no you cannot accept defeat, there should be another way out of this,” she said her voice laced with assurance.
“Trisha, he has a photo of my and Daniel, he even said that he had more and threatened to make it go viral if I prove to be stubborn, you see that’s how tight the whole thing has become,”
Whoa!! She exclaimed.
“Yea, it’s that serious, and you know how my father can be,”
She nodded, her eyes filled with concern, “there should be a better way out of this,”
I nodded, knowing she was far from being right. Because I was too far gone to turn back now, I had to see this through, no matter the consequences.
With the way things are, agreeing to call off the wedding, it will be better. I thought and picked my phone and began to type, “Let’s meet tomorrow by nine am, any venue of your choice,” and sent.
I waited anxiously for Hunter’s response, my mind racing with thoughts of what could happen next. After what felt like an eternity, my phone buzzed with an incoming text from him.
“Meet me at the park at nine am tomorrow,”
I nodded to myself, feeling a sense of resignation wash over me, I knew that I had to face Hunter and deal with the consequences of my actions.
Trisha noticed the look on my face and came over to sit beside me. “Hey, what’s going on? What did he say?”
I showed her the text and she nodded thoughtfully. “Well, at least he’s willing to talk. That’s a good sign, right?”
I nodded, trying to feel a sense of hope. But as I lay in bed that night, my mind racing with thoughts of what could happen tomorrow, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my world was about to come crashing down around me.
Finally, after what felt like hours, I drifted off to sleep, unsure of what the future holds for me.
