Amelia didn’t expect to see me.
The moment Andrew stepped up to her hospital bed, she leaped into his arms, wrapping him in a bear hug.
It was instinctive; he caught her without hesitation.
The worry etched in his eyes was unmistakable.
Then, without missing a beat, Amelia planted a loud kiss right on his cheek.
Andrew held her tight, neither pulling away nor turning to look at me until she finally noticed I was standing by the door.
I had just put my phone away after sending her father, Ryan Harrington, a video of their affectionate reunion.
I also bundled up the chat logs where Amelia had threatened me during the wedding and sent those along with a video she’d sent me. The Harrington family was an educated family with solid values.
From the moment I met them, I knew they were good people. But they had raised a daughter who had turned out to be a real piece of work. The fact that Amelia’s parents hadn’t shown up at the wedding spoke volumes; they had no idea what kind of daughter they had raised.
How could I not let them see the true face of their “wonderful” girl?
Amelia frowned. “What’s she doing here? What if she messes with my mood before surgery?”
I casually placed the carnations I brought into the vase by her bedside.
“I’m just here to wish you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.”
Amelia was momentarily at a loss for words.
I gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and added, “As for that trash, it’s time you dealt with it. Waste belongs in the recycling bin, after all.” With that, I turned to leave, mostly to avoid any potential drama.
Just as I stepped out of the room, I heard the unmistakable sound of the vase crashing to the floor behind me.
Moments later, I could hear Amelia’s soft sobs and Andrew’s attempts to comfort her.
The door swung open, and Andrew stepped out, his brow furrowed in concern. “What did you say to her? You know she’s a patient…”
I rolled my eyes. “Right, she’s a patient. If you want to coddle her, be my guest. I’m not playing that game.”
Andrew sighed, “Amelia’s condition is still pretty fragile. I’m staying here tonight to keep an eye on her.”
I peeked through the window and caught Amelia glaring at me, her expression a far cry from someone who was supposed to be unstable.
I nodded slightly. “You don’t have to fill me in.”
After all, we weren’t really in each other’s lives anymore.
Andrew took my hand, his grip firm. “You understand, right? She’s fighting for her life. She loves me the most. I can’t let her leave with regrets, especially with a surgery that has such a high failure rate.”
Before I could remind him that we had broken up and that his late–night vigils with her were none of my concern, Amelia’s voice called out again. Andrew rushed back into the room, ready to tend to her every whim.
