She was no different from her son.
Pretending to care, but really trying to get me
to marry Nick so they could steal my family’s money. They’d hoped I would be an only child, but then my brother came back.
That ruined everything, so now they were using
a different strategy.
I looked at Nick’s mom. She was looking at me
with so much hope. Since I knew her game, I

the dating scene. Based on what you just said,
you should be really popular.”
Nick’s mom had been divorced for years, and
was waiting for her son to grow up.

She yelled my name. Her friendly expression

could become successful. You also didn’t try to

hard just for me. Don’t act like everything you
do is for me, it’s so gross.”
We were supposed to love each other for years,

He stood up, and looked at the flowers on the

I said everything loud, so that everyone could
hear it. Everyone who had been watching the
show went silent. Nick looked humiliated and
tried to argue.
“I never wanted your money!
“You’re so naive, I was just worried that you’d

“My uncles and cousins might not be as
educated, but they’re all on my side! They can
all help you manage your company. We were
only trying to help!”
He was lying through his teeth. I realized what
