Aunt Carol didn’t want to give money, but
Dad and Uncle wanted to split the money.
They asked my mom to talk to me.
“Sweetheart, did your grandma leave you
anything? You were always on her side, so
she had to give you something.”
I smiled at my mom. “What do you think? Do
you think Grandma left me something?”
“I’m sure she left you something. You didn’t have money, so how did you live?”
I said, “You all forgot about the money you need to borrow to go to school.”
Mom yelled at me. “Loans? Why loans? We
don’t have the money for those!”
I won’t need it anymore.
Grandma left me something, but it was
hidden.
After I went home to pay my respects, I found
a storybook under the bed.
I had discovered that the heirloom Grandma
had given me at the moment of death was the key to a lock.
The key was a storybook that had been under Grandma’s pillow forever.
It wasn’t just something for me to play with
as a child, it was a riddle left by Grandma for me to figure out after her death.
Inside, the book had a hollow spot, and inside was a jade bracelet, and a phone number.
I called the number, and the lawyer picked up.
“Hello, is this Sweetheart?”
I said yes.
The lawyer said, “Sweetheart, Mrs. He gave
you an account where she put $20 million,
and those money can be used whenever you
need them.”
“How did you know, if I would call?”
The lawyer chuckled. “Ms. He mentioned how her granddaughter was very smart, and would
find the phone number.”
“But, if you still don’t call me, the bank would contact you about the money, which doesn’t
belong to the house.”
I nodded and thanked the lawyer.
This jade bracelet that Grandma was wearing
before she died, and she decided to keep it
for me.
<
Grandma planned everything, and those
unfilial children didn’t deserve to be called as
family.
But, it was also because of me, and it would cause more chaos, so she didn’t do anything, and wanted me to have more property.
Before the lawyer hung up, he reminded me,
“Mrs. He also mentioned how those money
should be used on yourself, and to call me for
anything that happens, and the lawyer fees
were already paid.”
I wiped my face and started crying.
She was always worried about me.
After I went to study overseas, my phone
would start ringing.
Sometimes it was my parents, where they
went to my school and they threatened me to
come back.
Dad called and said, “I knew your grandma left you money! We’re going to take the
money!”
“You are supposed to get me my payments,
or you’re not my daughter!”
I looked at the beautiful scenery and said,
“That’s ok, what you do to Grandma, is the
same thing I’m going to do to you.”
“When you get sick, I’m going to send you to
the hospital, ok?”
L
Dad was furious. They started threatening
me, and started calling my aunt, and uncle, and wanted me to give back the money.
I deleted everyone and then gave it to the
lawyer.
The lawyer fees would be enough.
If they kept calling me, I could call the lawyer
to sue them.
My phone got silent for a long period.
A year later, and it was the anniversary of
Grandma’s death.
I went back home and I was going to pay her
respects.
My parents stopped me and wanted me to give them an answer.
“Sweetheart, you took the money, and you don’t feel guilty about it? How can you take the money if it’s not yours?”
I put on my sunglasses and smiled. I just clapped, and a few men came behind me.
“Sorry, the money is mine, and if you touch
me, you’ll regret it.”
They were all scared, after I paid my respects,
they came.
“Sweetheart, don’t leave! Please come and
have lunch! We can talk about the money in
the future!”
“Sorry, I have to catch my flight.”
