Chapter 3
As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, a figure collided with me.
The divorce papers scattered all over the floor.
“I’m so sorry! I’m so sorry…

The figure in front of me looked apologetic.
But as soon as she recognized me, she froze, her expression stiffening.
“Mrs. Young, it’s you.”
Lignored her, rubbing my shoulder that was
sore from the impact.

Bending down, I gathered the scattered divorce
papers.
Just as I was about to leave, Patricia took a step forward, blocking my way.
“Mrs. Young, Mr. Young worked through the night and just fell asleep. Could you perhaps wait a bit before going in?”
I couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh.
I hadn’t divorced Brian yet, but Patricia was already acting like she owned the place.
How… amusing.
I glanced at her, my eyes landing on the faint red mark on her slender neck.

It was glaringly obvious.
It seemed Brian had indeed been very busy last night.
Noticing my gaze, Patricia’s face paled, a hint of panic flashing across her features as she stammered,
“Mrs. Young, Mr. Young had too much to drink last night… so…”
Her voice trailed off, but the smugness in her eyes was unmistakable.
I found it utterly laughable.

shoulder with a meaningful look.
“You’ve certainly worked hard,” I said, leaving Patricia standing there, dumbfounded.
I walked past her and made my way to Brian’s
office.
Brian looked surprised and a little flustered
when he saw me.
“Kimberly, why are you here?”
“It was too late after I finished last night. I didn’t want to disturb your rest, so I didn’t come
home.”
Brian’s half–hearted explanation didn’t hold my
attention.

I was more intrigued by the bed in his office that hadn’t yet been folded away.
Two pillows, one blanket…
Were they making the office their home now?
I found it almost comical.
Brian really was busy–too busy to even book a
hotel room.
Noticing my gaze, Brian shifted his position to block my view.
“I’ve been working overtime lately, so I bought a
fold–out bed.”
“By the way, Kimberly, how come you had time to visit today?”

I looked at him and handed him the divorce
agreement.
“What’s this?”
Brian looked confused.
“You want a divorce?”
When he saw the papers, his expression darkened.
“Yes,” replied, nodding.
“Just because I didn’t come home last night?”
Brian looked incredulous.
I frowned slightly, looking at him.

“Of course not. It’s not like this is the first time
you haven’t come home.!
Brian seemed to think I was just being emotional and reached out to embrace me, but
I pulled away.
“Kimberly, what’s all this about?”
Brian’s tone grew frustrated as he raised his
voice.
“I’m exhausted from working for the company every day, and you’re throwing a tantrum over nothing!”
Tlaughed coldly at his words.
“Exhausted?”

I glanced pointedly at the rumpled bed, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Are you exhausted from working for the company or… for someone else?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Are you accusing me of something?”
Brian’s voice grew louder, his guilt seeping through.
I gave him a cold look, unwilling to waste more words.
Seeing this, Brian pursed his lips, his tone softening.

“Kimberly, stop being unreasonable. After the wedding next week, I’ll spend more time with you. We can go anywhere you want…”
Crash!
Before Brian could finish his sentence, a loud noise interrupted him.
We both turned to look.
Patricia stood at the doorway, her eyes red, a broken glass at her feet.
“I–I’m sorry, the tea was too hot, and I lost my grip,” she stammered, her voice trembling with
tears.
She knelt down to pick up the broken pieces.

“Ah!”
Patricia winced as blood trickled from her finger.
Brian rushed over to her.
“How could you be so careless?”
“I’ve told you so many times–you don’t have to do these things!”
Though Brian’s words sounded like scolding, his tone was filled with concern.
He gently took Patricia’s hand, his eyes full of
worry.
“I just wanted to bring Mrs. Young some tea,” Patricia said, her voice tinged with grievance.

Brian froze for a moment, realizing I was still in the room. He turned to me, looking flustered.
“Kimberly, I just…”
“No need to explain.”
I cut him off.
I didn’t want to hear any more of his lies, nor did
I want to witness their little act.
וו
Just sign the papers.”
With that, I walked out of Brian’s office.
I walked slowly, but even by the time I reached the elevator and exited the building, Brian still hadn’t come after me.

I let out a bitter smile.
How foolish of me to think he would.
Of course, Patricia’s injured finger was more important than comforting me.
I laughed at myself, feeling the sharp pain in my
chest.
My heart no longer held any illusions about
Brian.
He… wasn’t worth it.
I pulled out my phone and started typing a
message.
“I’m sorry, but the wedding scheduled for next week has been canceled. Apologies for any

inconvenience caused.”
